Longmont/Boulder CO area riders....need help with my Mille 😞
« on: February 21, 2016, 01:32:22 PM »
Mechanically disinclined owner of '89 Mille GT needs help. Bike has been on tender since October (foot surgery, then old man winter).  Gas stabilized. New spark plugs. Bike turning over strong, not starting. Guessing fuel delivery issue...?  Need advice or more so someone willing to help out in exchange for..?
Days have been too nice and frustrated.

Thanks

Rick

I'd pull a plug lead, attach a plug and make sure I had spark.  Is it possible the leds weren't attached when you changed plugs?

Hopefully you have compression.

Yeah, pulled the plugs and tested, no spark on the new plugs. Leads connected.

Possibility that when changing plugs, wires came loose from coils?

Here, someone else had issues:

Moto(s)plat ignition gone Tango Uniform?
Not a matter of if, but when it happens. If the case, replace with points and don't look back.

Well there is your problem for sure.
89 came with points but you could have an after market electronic ignition Do you know if you have points or an aftermarket electronic ignition?  That both sides are dead says with your wiring harness is not connected properly or you have an ECU box for an electronic ignition that is dead. If you have points then it's simple. Check coils, check points and see if they are clean and set and check wiring harness. Also check condensers. My guess is you have a dead ECU box but stock Guzzi coils suck and will die. So they need to be checked with an ohm meter but if you are mechanically challenged you might not have an ohm meter.

More than one guy has cranked one with the kill switch on. Not that I would ever have done that, of course.

89 mille had points. Motoplat was 90.

I knew 90 had Motosplat  (see tag line) but it seems I read somewhere (my pornographic memory is failing) the Motosplat was phased in late 89. Then again, I could be entirely crazy.
