V11S down for lack of a seal
« on: July 09, 2017, 05:42:08 AM »
A friend's clutch slave on the V11 sport is belly up. Unless we can come up with a seal, the bike is dead. He can't find one.. how about it WG guys and girls?
EPDM 3mm square section O-ring seal (30mm ID)

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention. The clutch slave is NLA.

In fact looking at the parts break down even though they have different part numbers I reckon the slave is identical between the V11 and the CARC bikes, the difference being one is supplied with a bleed nipple and one without. If you can measure the bore diameter and depth I'll check tomorrow. If it's the same I'll send you a slave AND the nice remote bleeder line so he'll not have to do the grovelling when bleeding the clutch!

He's already tried the carc slave. They are different. This is second hand info, but I think 32mm vs 30mm dia. on the V11S.

Maybe get a hold of a Brembo parts guy to match it up to a puck seal.

The clutch slave is by Grimeca, not Brembo. But there's a chance that a Brembo o-ring could fit.

Here are the measurements I took from 2000 V11 Sport:

1989 Moto Guzzi LeMans
2002 Moto Guzzi V11 Sport Scura
2017 Husqvarna 701 Enduro
2017 Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX
2020 Yamaha TW200

I seriously doubt the slave would be unique to Guzzi might be worth trying to work out where else it was used I'd start by getting a part number directly off the part and type that number into google.

In my experience, Grimeca is generally a cheaper imitation of Brembo. Maybe a Brembo seal "would" work. At any rate, if we don't figure this one out, we may have found the Achilles heal of a V11S.

I know it's not oem but Kaman, Motion Ind. or any good bearing house or Hydraulic shop should have that nowadays. If all else fails I know they make O-ring kits to build your own.   Plan B... I have a spare used complete slave Lemme know

Does the O.D. Matter? There is a major seal dealer / manufacturer here and I can usually get any type / size of O ring. I can check Monday if you like

Cheers

Racing brake calipers like wilwood use a square seal, you can substitute a standard round o-ring on them.  The mfg . prefers the square type cuz you get a little bit more pull back of the piston (Good for clearance on brakes) but they work well with a round type also.  The pressures are FAR less on a clutch slave verses a brake caliper.  I would use an appropriate round o-ring.

If you haven't already, maybe try a Napa store. I found them to be a good place to find odd things like that. The "main store" n the area is the ones that may have the all the stuff on hand and the service guys/gals are more likely to have seen something like it that may work. Typically, I've found Napa counter guys very willing to help and take their time to dig a little and come up with something. Good service in my experience. Good luck.

Napa, where is my check?  :azn:

I have some manner of Guzzi clutch slave cyl in my stash.  If you snap me a pic I might be able to match it.  I was after the left side pump for a project and had to take the entire system.  So I have no use for the slave.

Thanks to all that have posted. He's in Tennessee, and I haven't seen what is going on. He has found a supplier that will make some for 13 bucks, minimum order of 10, so that ought to sort it.
