its gonna be a slow mover.  that means lots of water, flooding, and people being stupid.  I know we will lose power at some point, as we lose power when a bird lands on the wrong line it seems.
The Mississippi is very high, as are all the waterways around here, so could be a repeat of 2016's massive flooding.  Time will tell.  The water has no place to go as the storm is pushing the Gulf waters inland, and thats what causes the biggest issue, water can't drain, it just backs up.

My generator is ready to go, filling all my gas cans today.
have water stored, freezing extra bottles of water, and plenty to eat without having to cook it.  But do have a propane if need be.

My place is about 3' off the ground, and that saved us last time, hopefully it won't get that bad, but they are saying up to 24" of rain.
New Orleans is already flooding in some parts of the city, of course, most of New Orleans is under sea level anyway.

The storm looks to hit west of me, about 50 miles and usually the east side has most of the water as it rotates counter clockwise.  Time will tell how bad, but we have seen and been through this before.  My biggest concern is how long we will be without electricity.  Katrina we lost power for about 2 weeks give or take a day.

There's a group of Kiwis from the Italian Motorcycle Club over there riding Harleys on an organized tour.  Probably means all their accommodation bookings will be pre-booked and unable to changed without financial disadvantage.  I don't do Bookface, so I guess I'll hear of the outcome when they return.

UPDATE

well, have gotten some rain, not much so far, mostly wind.  have lots of limbs in the yard, but very little water up to this point.

I am really surprised we still have power.  Usually, this much wind and the power goes out.  Fingers crossed.

Best of luck to Louisiana and the other coastal areas...no fun going thru hurricanes, having been thru 3 heavy ones here in Houston.

All I can say, is best evacuate if you are told to do so...be ready to go at any time, this one is moving at about 5 mph, with a shitload of rain coming down...hopefully not a repeat of Cajun Harvey for you guys.

Riding out Barry here in La Porte TX.  Practicing our best hurricane skills - took a nap, grilled some steaks, so far so good, may need another nap tomorrow.

No problem so far in Waldheim. A little rain and a little wind has been the extent of things here. We're expecting more tonight and Sunday, but we're about 80 miles east of the eye. We still have power...

Update
well, not much to report, very little rain, some wind that put lots of limbs in the yard, but other than that a non event for us.
We may get some more rain later today, but the next concern is the flood levels of the local bayous and rivers.  most are predicting well above flood stage, so we will have to wait and see.

It's still on our news.

Looks like there is a fair bit of flooding happening but the reports we are getting are saying that overall the levees are holding. Hope that's correct!

One of the more entertaining moments:

TV guy asks a local woman if the local churches were going to be opening during the storm.

Lady says, "I don't know.  I only eat Popeye's."

I can't say with any certainty.  Read that on another site.  Great line either way.

We’re still getting light rain, but we’ve been spared the worst this time. We never even lost power... but I’m not complaining.

The first postponement was a "cardiac concern" for Mick Jagger. Time marches on...

SW Louisiana was fine until Sunday night and Monday morning. The rainfall varied from 3 inches at my house to 13 to 14 inches north of Lake Charles to 23 inches in Ragley. Since it was so sporadic, not much flooding.
