V85TT just picked up
« on: July 16, 2019, 08:40:20 AM »
Oh ya, took it for 1st ride July 4th.  My wife named it "Liberty".  Strapped it to the back of the RV last weekend & are still at music camp - guitar classes in the AM - motorcycle ride in the afternoon - music jams @ night!  Going from music camp to Broken Arrow Guzzi camp Friday..
Bike is incredible!!!

I ended up putting on around 900mi the first two days when I picked it up. The Anakee seems pretty solid but the front does have a pronounced howl when not right in the center(straight up). I got my MSO in the mail and got the title work done so I am all set now. I could not schedule a break in check until Aug 6th so I have a question. I now have 1100mi on the bike and will probably have another 1000 or so before I get the check. Should I change out the break in oil before the warranty check? If so should I make the switch to synthetic?

I would highly recommend changing the oil before another 1000 miles.  I don't know for sure about the V85, but all other modern small block Guzzis call for full synthetic, 10w60 4T JASO MA oil.  It ain't cheap, or particularly easy to find.

A different bike, and a few years further on, but when I dropped the V7C"s  engine oil at 39km, there was A LOT on metallic debris in the oil - notes say "grey & muddy, with filings on the magnets". I'd change the oil & filter, at least.

Congrats.  Please keep us posted as you get to know her.

I am hoping to get a test ride this week.  Not sure yet what I will or would part with if I'm smitten with the V85TT.  The obvious would be the Himalayan but $4k isn't going to help much with the cost of th V85TT.

The former Okla MGNOC Rep (before Michael D) got a red and white one.  First Guzzi he's owned in a few years.  Sorry, can't remember the guy's name (not the first time I've forgotten since being on the board).

He gave his best the Ken Hand and Luap.  His wife was on a Scout.  Unfortunately Russ had dropped the new bike and had chipped the red and white paint despite the crash bars.

Has anyone yet done over 1500 kM (900 miles) on their V85 yet?  I'm getting close, and would like to now whether the service spanner (wrench) is going to show on the dashboard.

In New Zealand, the importer insists that the dealer does the services otherwise the warranty becomes null & void.  I would like to get the service spanner removed if it is going to appear, so would rather go over the 1500 kM odometer reading so the spanner is present when I take it in.

Perfect size RV, nice color for the V85, excellent bumper attachment. I could go for years like that. Congradulations and do report after a few miles.  :thumb:

Did you order and buy the bike WITH bags?  Still waiting on mine and hope the bags and mounts don’t come separately.  What’s the deal?

The spanner reset is a dealer only thing now. And it can only be reset when its on at 1500km. So when you do service at 1450, it will com on at 1500

I hope and expect somebody in the field will fix that problem, otherwise the market is going to be limited to those who use dealer service.  The periodic services on a V85TT are extremely simple and I would not be manipulated into using the dealer to turn off an annoying and unnecessary light.

It's pretty much built in to many of the new bikes now.  Not just Piaggio but Ducati.  Not sure about other brands.

Many riders just back date the calendar to the previous year to fool the counter.  But you can't do that for the mileage reminders.

Yes, it's a shame, and one of the biggest factors in all of my four Ducatis being built before they implemented this form of customer manipulation. I think it's arguably illegal in the US, but nobody has done anything about it.  Apparently Guzzis haven't been afflicted until now - you could reset the service light yourself as in my Japanese car.

The European manufacturers really do themselves a PR disservice with this sort of thing, makes them look arrogant and insensitive to the buyer.  Interesting info on 2019 bikes at the link below, the manufacturer changes the system every so often and it makes previously developed reset tools ineffective.

https://www.scramblerforum.com/threads/ducati-refuse-to-reset-600m-service-light-on-a-2019-scrambler.37669/

If all else fails perhaps some intelligent surgery on the display could permanently disable the light itself.

Yes - the Italian industry's use of this coercive business development 'feature' is a copy cat thing, an invention of the German motor industry used on their cars and motorcycles.  US and Japanese manufacturers don't generally do it but they also in general sell to a different less compliant consumer market.
