This was my experience with a 2000 Quota:

Pro.

1. They do handles well and the seating position is very comfortable. The air cooled 1100 2 valve is one of my favorite Guzzi offering only trumped by the 800 round head.

Cons

1. Wind noise and buffeting is comparable to sitting directly behind a Pratt and Whitney JT10D at full thrust with fuel milage that swings from the low 30's to mid 40's with no rhyme or reason.

2. If it still has the stock rims it is suggest they be replaced with new as the stockers are known to crack at the spokes

3. The exhaust crossover is know to crack and will need repaired only to crack somewhere else

4. There is little to no aftermarket stuff available

5. It is way over geared. 3rd is good for anywhere between 20 MPH and 75 MPH. 4th and 5th especially is useless unless on the autobahn.

6. There is little to no stock stuff available (especially body work, frame, forks, swingarm)

7. There is a very small micro market for these bikes. Like Converts these are on the fringe of Guzzi mainstream and the selling price of typically between $2,500 and $3,500 reflect this. If you find you don't like it (as I did mine) you either need to sell it at fire sale prices or wait for the right next buyer which may take a very long time.

I put 5,000 mile on mine and sold it. It was amazing in some areas and unbearable to many others. I replaced it with a DR650 as my touring rig and never regretted that choice.

I was looking at this Quota, looks like the owner dialed it in regarding the wind buffeting:

My good friend, the NH Guzzi rep put over 100K on his. We were sitting here at my house and he said I'll have 100K on it in 500 miles I said lets go. That evening it had all 9's on the odometer. He was surprised as he said he'd neverfind a rider in the NE that would want to put 500 miles on in one day on secondary roads. Small tank and fuel mileage is always under 40.Tex

A buddy of mine a Guzzi dealer at the time bought a new Quota and was trying to put 100,000 miles on it in 2 years. On is way to his day job he heard a clunk and couldn't shift into any other gear. Rode the next 20 or so miles in 4th gear to work. When he got to work a coworker asked what was hanging out from under the bike. He thought he stoved a piece of rebar or some other road trash into the transmission housing. When he got off the bike and looked 3rd gear was broken and hanging out of a hole in the transmission housing.

I'm on my second Quota. 66,000 miles on the first, and 21,000 on the current one. Unbelievably fun bike to ride. Only about 200 imported. I'm tall and don't understand the buffeting thing.

Have no problem with mine one up.Packed and two up I want for a little more power. If you get it for the right price  you will end up with a great all around bike.

Great bike, does nothing particularly well, but will do almost anything. Mud, sand, gravel, asphalt. Its a top heavy bike, so feels a bit like enduro on the road.
I did several 3000+ mile tours with my two Quotas, never left me anywhere where I did not want to be. The Quota always found its way back to my garage, just like a good horse.

I put Laminar lip on my windscreen and the wind deflectors on tank and buffeting solved. Yes, its a bit thirsty, but riding in States was never a problem since there are plenty of gas stations.
The guy above me... "Hauto",  purchased one of them.

I have Stelvio now, there is no comparison between these two, Stelvio wins hands down.
However, I think that I just might get a Quota too (again). Its fun as hell to ride...

Buffetting is easy to address. With "normal" riding, each of my 3 Quotas delivers around 40 mpg.  I've gone as far as 210 miles before refueling but have also been as low as 25 mpg (running with full luggage at 100+mph for extended periods. Have had the cracking of the rear wheels around the spokes, but front wheels all look good.  As was said before, some spare pieces are not easy to find.

Pretty sure I bought that eBay one.  I flew out to Newark NJ and rode it back to Indiana.  Ran without a problem.  Totally different than my '78 Goldwing.

I plan on keeping it for a good long while. I've already put 1000 miles on it and I've only had it for three days.  The instrument cluster has a pretty bad crack in it, so I'm going to have to do something about that, but everything else seems well sorted. I felt like I paid a fair price for it.  Not a steal, but I don't feel like I got ripped off.  Used the trip out to get it and bring it back as an excuse to re-connect with several friends along the way.  A good start to ownership.

This puppy took me all throughout New England last autumn.  3500 miles without a hiccup.
