longer side stand for V7 III
« on: August 17, 2019, 07:55:15 AM »
I put progressive springs and longer Biturbo shocks on my V7 III Stone. Ride height and performance is just about perfect for me but now the bike sits about 2" higher. As a result the stock side stand is waaaay to short A piece of 2x4 under the stand  makes it right again.

How do I go about buying or making a side stand that's 1.5" to 2" longer?

My first thought was to get a center stand.  Should be very easy to put up on the center stand with it being higher.  Then you know it is secure/safe compared to a cut, lengthened, and rewelded side stand.

How much longer are your shocks?  Are they longer travel or just longer eye-to-eye?  Asking as I have considered adding longer travel shocks to my V7 iii, just wondering how much is OK.

You could cut the leg of the stand and get two pieces of tubing: (1) that would fit fairly snugly inside the cut ends and that is 1-2 inches longer than the length you want to add to the stand and (2) an outer sleeve that would slide over part #1 and butt up against the cut ends. This would be the desired added length, subtracting a little for the welds.

You'd have to weld everything together.

                      X************X
***********************         The thinner sleeve gets inserted into the cut ends
              ***********************
X*************X                 (X)  The outer sleeve gets welded to the inner sleeve and the cut ends

Is it possible up drill and bolt something to the bottom of the stand like a cut plastic block or hockey puck? If you can't drill, could it be strapped (hose clamps).

Is it the same side stand as the earlier V7’s?  If so, I have the stock stand from my ‘14 you can have and try to modify.

The earlier V7 sat higher than the III so it may actually be longer which could only help. Can you bring it to Bowman's? I'll comp you lunch.

A guy on the Royal Enfield forum did this because when the bike was loaded for a trip the stand was too long.
