For short, old folks like me, the stock side stand of Norges creates a challenge: the lean angle is so severe that when the bike is fully loaded I have trouble getting the bike upright. For the 2007 Norge I purchase just a few weeks ago, I asked my brother-in-law (former pro flat-tracker and expert welder) to add an inch of steel to the foot of the stand. He had also done this for the 2009 Norge that I totaled on Bambi's mom last June; the mod helped a lot.

I need to do the same to my 1200 Sport side stand. It appears to be the same as your Norge stand. I've wondered why Guzzi made a USA stand and a rest-of-the-world stand for the BNS12 bikes. I think the USA stand might be less prone to sinking in warm asphalt than the Euro design (pure speculation on my part.)

I agree and have bikes with both. I prefer the USA version for the above reason, but have to use the Euro type if lowered footpegs are installed.

Does anyone have the Euro sidestand installed ? Just curious, was thinking of getting one. As blackbuell stated the lean angle on the Norge when the panniers and topcase are loaded sometimes creates a challenge getting it off the sidestand.

I started by adding a block to the bottom of the existing foot pad. I noticed that after awhile it was leaning again and that the horizontal bend in the kickstand had just bent more to make up for the added height on the pad. I cut it off and welded a larger foot directly below the part of the stand that was coming down from the frame. No more silly horizontal section and the bike is very secure at a more upright lean angle. I did weld a loop near the bottom so I could deploy it with my toe.

I suppose not because Guzzi wanted that. There must have been some testing organisation mandating that. So like put two average Americans on it with all the luggage they can carry, and see if it bends.

You can cut a small piece of the base of the stand off at an angle such that it no longer touches the lowered foot pegs, and still retains enough of the original base to hold the bike up with no problem, even fully loaded with passenger and gear.

It seems like Guzzi has a long tradition of poor sidestand design
My 1000SP had the most horrible short self-folding sidestand mounted to the front of the frame. Lean angle was +25degree and the slightest push from the left would release the sidestand to fold up! I think it was the same for all tonti-frames except the floorboard models which had a Harley-like stand.
I ended up buying a used Kawasaki sidestand from ebay and making my own bracket to mount at the rear engine bolt and centre stand. It's now leaning less than 10 degree, has an ignition disable contact and does not fold up unexpectedly.
