Facebook is like a tool....and is to used in moderation, (just like this forum)....and nothing more.

Well, FB.  I have used it to find some long lost friends.  Pretty amazing at that, mainly.  Keep track of activity and history of home town Durango, CO via a group.  Now that is unique, and really cool.  Same with high school.  For those who have moved as much as I have, FB can be a great tool.  Some good news sites too and special interest groups.

Downside is there, definitely.  Moderation is essential.  One reason I have enjoyed learning GoPro is their forum:  excellent resource for going under the hood of the hardware and software.  This forum is superb.

Final comment:  some people use FB to track other people and throw rocks.  Went thru a big unfriend phase to shed some best left behind.  Found alias accounts as friends etc.  Took a while, but that tree pruned to trunk.

Always seemed to me to be a place where teenagers take selfies of themselves doing stupid things, to assure that they can't get a responsible job later.

Change "kids" to "adults" and it still stands ....

Facebook is what you make it.

Many companies and other entities have Facebook pages that are updated more often than their websites, and since updates go into your news feed it's easy to keep up.

I follow musicians, hotels, restaurants, bars, state parks, national parks, BLM agencies, and various retailers of interest.  Also Auto and Moto companies and clubs, such as Moto Guzzi, Alfa Romeo, Lincoln.  And, news outlets for cities where I live and travel.

I do keep up with a few individual friends and acquaintances, which is nice.  But that is a secondary reason for me to check my feed each day.

Sure, it can be a dating tool, or a "hold my beer and watch this" megaphone, but it doesn't have to be.

Facebook can be a great resource of news and information of interest that is delivered to your phone.

Looks like having a Facebook page is worth it to drive customers to your business.  Other than that I wouldn't do it.  No one needs to know what I look like or where I'm going.

I don't have a personal FB anymore, but we use the business page quite a lot and I hear 10x a day that folks found us via 'likes' or posts of ours that were shared by their friends.  If we pay to 'boost' our business posts (just costs a couple bucks), the posts get hundreds of more clicks, likes, and comments. It works for us  :thumb:

:1: To what Rocker said . I only look at FB when visiting a friend in Arkansas , so about 6 times a year . Lots of interesting and creative stuff gets posted there , along with tons of , well , bull poopie. Simply a matter of using the same filter that dealing with the real world requires .

If you use FB very much I would suggest that you download and use F. B. Purity then you can tweak FB more to your liking.

I resisted joining until about a couple of years ago.  It' great checking up on the extended family I ordinary wouldn't  communicate with every day or once a month. Grand kids, nieces and nephews grow up so fast it seems.  I belong to several groups for amateur radio, motorcycle, etc.  whatever peaks my interest.  I do, however, limit friend's request to keep it simple.

BTW...How are you doing HD? Things back to normal yet?

Getting better daily.

The saying is borrowed from a "The Infinite Monkey Theorem" which states that given an infinite number of monkeys sitting at typewriters there is a great likely hood they will produce something equivalent to the complete works of Shakespeare . Of course it really isn't talking about monkeys

I'm perhaps more upset that I've gotten to see how some people I thought I knew, really are. And then all the inflammatory and inaccurate junk is over loading the pea brains who do not do research. I'm probably going to stick to specific topic boards rather than 300 people.

I've purged my "friends list" a couple of times.  Half what you have, and getting ready for another purge to thin out people who I don't know, or don't interact with.

When I was on facebook the various MG sites were pages I visited often to see what they were doing.  But, my long list of friends was whittled down due to political posts, various nonprofits posts, and drivel.  Pretty soon I only had two friends left, wife and son-in-law.  Since I talk to both of them a lot (yep, I do talk to my wife :)  ) then I dropped FB.

FWIW, I also dropped off of three other forums.  Down to four now.
