I only have anecdotal evidence, but the Stornello seems to leave the factory with the 495 795 map, and the Stone, et al, have the 496 796. Unless the Stornello's have been sitting boxed for a long time? The 496 796 is a much better map. * fixed typo's.
As an aside, my V7II Special ran like a champ until first service, now it idles poorly when cold and wants to stall without a lengthy warmup the dealer has admitted they do not have the latest map because they have not paid the annual fee to Piaggio for the software update. I am going to ask the GM when that will be. I don't understand why they would overwrite the map on a perfectly running bike! My backup plan is to seek out a dealer that can upload the best software, hopefully Red Ember in Daytona.EDIT: The 796 map is dated 10-15-15, is there any factory map that is best?
AFAIK the 796 is the latest V7II map. It's better 795. There's also the 740. That's all the V7II maps right there. Did they admit to overwriting the map? Was the mechanic a shaved ape? Brand new apprentice on his first ever job? It beggars belief on what some of these Guzzi dealers do.
While you can load a V7 map into a V7II, it won't run. It won't even start. We're talking single throttle body V7. As Kev says, PADS (shite software by Piaggio) won't load the wrong map. In fact, it won't let you update a map if it already has the latest version. Or let you overwrite a newer map with an older version. It also notifies you if there is a newer version available. I think the latter only occurs if the PADS software is up to date. Something smells here.
Well I never did demo a Stornello but I did end up finding a 2013 v7 stone with 1500 miles. Very niceBike that is extremely clean. It has mistral exhaust and a dart screen on it, I just couldn't pass on this one.Cheers.
You gotta be kidding me. 8K for a NEW Stornello? And it's even a question to buy one? Geez, what a screaming deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lot of dealers do this. Slash the price of the bike to near cost then add the profit back in via a document or admin fee. Not saying it wasn't a good price but just a game dealers play. Tim
Two others here have reported buying Stornellos from this dealer and I believe they both reported paying $100 doc fee.
