Weird question for you car guys or machinists
« on: March 05, 2018, 03:13:42 PM »
I need a 10 MM stud connector , something you might think would be easy to source , but apparently not . Seems maybe VW used some of these on the old pancake 4's , anyone know what size those were , or any car engines that used a 10 MM size ? SAE is no problem , but Metric isn't easy to find . Geez , sometimes I wish we could just standardize this stuff

 Well ...

Unfortunately we no longer have a full Ace Hardware here anymore , and our Fastenal only carries SAE coupling nuts . I found some in bulk , but geez , who needs 50 of these things ?

Gonna go on a mission to find one , wish me luck .

Found one in Tulsa , my sister is going within a block of the store tomorrow . Just hate to pay 5 bucks shipping for a $2.00 part .

I do want to say how much I appreciate the PM's offering to send one , this place is inhabited by the best people

The coupling nut can be essentially free.   You just need to go out and spend about $2K on a nice, used lathe and make your own.

ALWAYS check Amazon. Might cost you $3 plus $5 in shipping, but what's your time worth?

Dusty, how many times have you and I gone to Ace?

I would guess a couple of dozen and about half as many again to Lowes/HD.

Don't remind me of those Lowe's trips  Said before , our one Ace isn't a full blown Ace store, they didn't have one , but the one on South Peoria in Tulsa does have one . Checked everyone of our industrial supply houses here , no luck , apparently Muskogee isn't aware that a lot of stuff is Metric these days

The connector comes in a 1.50 pitch , so I will need to thread the rod to match .

I believe cars/trucks from the traditional US brand names are nearly 100% metric now....Are new Harleys metric?

Yebbut, the stuff that we'll actually be WORKING on will still be SAE or Whitworth ... unless its a Citroen or an old Fiat .... The newer it is, the less likely that we'll even know what nut-and-bolt standard they're using ...

Rule seems like a nice place, but apparently you can't order jack from their site, or see their inventory. You need to go to one of their locations? I've been looking for some oddball sae stuff
