Ok then... Who'll pull the trigger on a V85 ..?
« on: October 02, 2018, 07:10:50 AM »
There was a comment regarding how many of us will buy a V85.
How's about a show of hands from those who are in from the get go.
Remember we're after 6 or more.
There are a few punters on this forum who reckon they will, but whatdya' say to a commitment..?
Here's a start..
#1....Huzo (it's a slam dunk for me.)
I'm just gunna' pop on my ear protection so's not to be deafened by the sound of crickets..
And none of this flaccid type smarmy "have to see what it looks like" BS.
I do believe the expression is..
"Put up or shut up..!"
I can see it now, "Huzo, don't try to railroad me into a decision, I'll do it when I'm ready.."
Yep, I reckon "you" will.. :clock:

Depends on the price and a test ride.

I don't usually buy new bikes because I can usually find almost-new bikes for thousands of dollars less than new ones, but the V85 would be something that I might consider getting new.
The only thing I really, really don't like is that stupid digital gauge cluster.  It just doesn't seem right.  Guzzi's should always have an analog tach and speedo!

The MSRP is the big question for me.  I'd prefer a V7 styled bike with the 85 engine.  If I buy a V85 and then 6 months later Guzzi drops the bike in street trim I'll lament that....I coulda had a V8!

Anyway, MSRP under 13k?  I'm in on a V85.  I'd trade my 1400 towards one because if I have a dualsport I'll never ride the big Cali.  If they come out with a street styled V85 or it's on the near horizon I might skip the V85 dualsport and wait for it.  A V7/8 with 80hp at the crank and a similar weight ticks all the boxes I've ever found lacking with the V7.

There's a big difference in buying a motorcycle for the motorcycle and buying a motorcycle for the ride.  My big V-Strom was the most boring and ugly bike I've ever owned.  It also suited the kind of riding I most enjoy more than any other bike I've ever owned.  It sucked to look at but some of the best rides of my life were on it.  It was the polar opposite of my 93' Ducati 900SS.  I loved the motorcycle but it was truly horrible on the roads I most enjoy, uncomfortable and I would have broken the frame if I kept it.  I think the V85 might meet the pride of ownership itch AND be a platform for some great rides.  By the time the V85 comes out I'll probably be thoroughly sick of the 1400 and ready to pull the trigger.

Hah!

In my entire riding career I have only purchased one "new" bike. As much as I'd LIKE to buy this thing... I can't justify spending the money.

Maybe I'll buy a pre '07 KLR and paint it to match.
Old enough to say I've done it, young enough to do it again.

Waiting to see the final specs:

- If the seat height is 32 inches or less
- If it weighs under 500 lbs wet
- If rated power really is north of 60 hp

Then I'll put a deposit down.

I have had a deposit on one for several months now. When I went to the dealer I had to tell him all about it. My trip yesterday to Mandello del Lario gave me more reason to say I can’t wait until mine comes in. I only wish I could have ridden it last week when I was riding a Tiger in the Dolomites. It would have been even more fun.

Wow, it's like you're in the same boat as I am.  I was thinking of trading my 1400 Cali in for something like the V85.  The Cali is beautiful and comfy but it's a bit too big for my preferences.  I already have my impractical-yet-inexplicably-beloved Harley Dyna Street Bob but I was hoping to get a bike that I could ride in cold or bad weather and be a bit of a workhorse.  If the V85 is indeed the workhorse that I imagine it is, then it might be the combination of practicality and love that I'm looking for.

I am waiting on price as well. I called to pre order one a few months ago thinking it would arrive this fall. After being told it would next be spring I decided I didn't want to tie up a deposit that long.

I am ~80% i will get this...

well, again, numerous factors order of importance to somewhat annoying.

  • When my kid let me sleep more than 4 hours a day or I won't be riding much (LOL personal issue)
  • Price (Gotta be south of 11K US or we are talking F750 GS territory which is selling less than that here locally)
  • Seat Height (HOPING for anything less than 33" or again looking at F750GS)
  • Weight (anything less than 500lb wet, I am happy, and if seat is low enough for me to muscle the bike then not so much)
  • Center stand (due to storage where I am at)
  • Ability to mount Tubeless Tires(I really hate changing tube tires on the side of the road...did that couple times with help and never again  :violent1:)
  • HP (Power-Weight Ratio...not too concern about 80@ crank or 80@ wheel...as long as it has the pick up and able to keep with traffic ~80MPH, I am happy)

Of course, most of them I can work around...but if the price is already ridiculously high for the basic model, then I will just stick to my V7 until further notice....OR dare I say...switch to the F750GS

Called the local dealer and they do not know when they will be expecting the bike at all so far...crossing fingers

So far, the news about seems to be on the happy side :P  :thumb:

I put a deposit on one at my dealer right after its unveiling at EICMA last year.

I still have to see it in person but I'm hoping it has reasonable ground clearance and suspension travel. I don't think it will be a replacement for the Stelvio, which works really well offroad, but I'm hoping it has most of the Stelvio's ability.

Glad I didn't put down a deposit with my local dealer as he has dropped the Guzzi line

I'm in the "Waiting to see the price and final specs" category.  I like it, and I can see swapping the Norge for this.

That's better than I thought, we have four..
And bugger me 1/2 of them are Aussies....Bonus..!
Oh, and while we're at it..
I remember when I suggested a V8 with stand off Le Mans styling, to slide in between the V7 and V9 and was roundly criticised..!
Sort of an oblique tip of the hat to the memory of yesteryear.

I’ll get one Huzo if you need a guinea pig, I’ll even let you ride it - lol.

If everyone contributes ten or twenty bucks I should almost have enough moolah.

I would likely buy a V85 if I hadn’t just purchased my GS, which is a superb motorcycle. It’s chain drive of course, but with a Scottoiler automatic chain lube system, the chain seems to be self-cleaning. Pretty much like having a shaft or belt.

Did the Adventure bike thing.  I'm over it.  The V7 will take me anywhere I care to go on the roads less traveled.

I might buy one (might) if I can replace my V7 and Stelvio with it.  I do think I'll sell the V7 soon as one bike seems all I need and the Stelvio suits my riding more than the V7.  The V85 would be a nice replacement if it is lighter than the Stelvio by a good margin and can hold it's own with regards to power.  I will take a look at one when it arrives and who knows I may end up with a Stelvio and V85.

Pretty sure I will buy one in 2020.  Will it replace the aging GSA1200 or the newer in the stable but honestly less ridden KTM 690 (2014)?

I will probably end up with one. however, I tend to wait until about the third year of production, aka, until they get the bugs worked out.

Which is fine for me anyways as my wife and I are planning to build a new house in a couple years, so no new toys until after that job is done.

Like others I'm waiting to read real world riding experiences and weight. But if it has tube-type wheels (which most feel it does) I probably won't even consider one.... I HATE tubes. I have one bike, an Africa Twin, with the damn things and already had a flat on the original front tire and tube. The saving grace is it occurred 1 block from the Honda dealer so one hour and $100 later I was on my way. The odd thing is there was no puncture, somehow the tube just wore through maybe from a rough spot inside the tire. When I travel on that bike in addition to my little compressor I end up packing wrenches, tire irons, rear tube (which is both bulky and heavy but most bike shops don't stock that size), and patches. Sorry for the rant on tubes.
The other thing is I feel it would be intelligent to give this new bike a couple years.

The pictures I've seen show the V85TT with the same Alpina tubless spoked wheels as the Griso, Stelvio, and Eldo have...

It will be a shame if they send the bike to production with tube-type wheels.
