Breva 1100 starting issue resolved
« on: December 29, 2018, 04:52:21 PM »
Hi,

Been having issues on and off since I purchased my Breva 1100 a little over a year ago. I put in a new Motobatt battery last fall and the MPH starter fix along with a new relay for good measure. All seemed good and then again trouble...well I found that the ground to the flimsy stud behind the starter cover was loose and also slight corrosion on the battery terminals. Cleaned the terminals and applied a slight film of petroleum jelly.  All seemed ok and gave it an occasional trickle charge. Yesterday bike would not start but it's been weeks since I last road (EV is my main winter bike) so placed on slow charge and a few hours later bike started and went for a 150 mile ride. This morning bike would NOT start again! Dear Lord...

I'm starting to regret buying this Breva and should have bought a Honda ST1300 but my heart/soul and pride would not let me.

So I checked battery voltage and it was good as well as a load test. Checked cables and ground again and all was well. Fuse and relay checked good and also bench tested the starter as well. So off to Walmart of all places and purchased a 24 inch/4 gauge battery cable. I left the other ground on and also installed this one to the stud off the gearbox right behind the starter. BINGO....started several times without a problem!

Stock wire inside looked good...main problem not being able to get a good bite/torque on the ground bolt under the plastic starter cover.

Yea, Guzzi's better idea(not) a 6mm deal instead of 8 or 10 where you could get good torque on it.

Yes, photo attached of one of Guzzi's better ideas! Use one fragile bolt to ground two wires and while we're at it hold down the (much needed)  plastic starter cover.
