Peoples, need to confirm what size rear tire to get for a 1998 California.
The manual calls for 140/80-17 69V. It needs to be a special tire for Guzzi to fit with this size. Some rub the swing arm in this size. Indeed the Pirelli MT-80 that is on there has a rub mark on it from at least occasional contact.
A quick web search shows some web sites suggest a 130/90-17.
Edited here to remote data Lowryter and Rocker59 identified as incorrect, no need to have more incorrect data floating around the internet so deleted it. Thanks guys appreciate the heads up.
Any thoughts on this? (disclaimer - not a tire expert, probably doing the math wrong, just want the right tire. :))

actually I think 140 and 130 mean that's the actually width of the tire. The 80 and 90 series states how tall the sidewall is from the rim. This will give you the circumference and let you now how stiff the ride quality is.
140 mm width * .80 = 112 mm side wall height (stiffer)
130 mm width * .90 = 117 mm side wall height (not as stiff)

the second number is called an aspect ratio. 80 means the tire's height is 80% of it's width. LowRyter's # are correct.
What I am running on my CalVin is a Kenda 130/70-17 rear tire. It is a cruiser tire, and has a load rating withing about 20# of the stock tire. Lowers gearing 6.5% and ride height .75". Plenty of clearance. Doesn't look too small...

They run about 7000-8000 miles before needing replacement
