v65 alternator wiring
« on: August 09, 2018, 09:56:16 AM »
Hi guys I haven't  been on here for a while since selling my 750 breva. But I have recently bought a v65 engine to fit to a lomax kit car. it has the ignition system complete with sparker boxes included but no wiring for the alternator. there seems to be 3 spade terminals mounted on a white plastic block marked W V U and 3 separate spade terminals Y @ 8 o'clock D- @10 o'clock and DF @2 o'clock. this I am told by a friend who has a t3 is a bosch unit and needs a regulator/ rectifier unit which you can now get as a solid state unit any information as to units reqd and how to wire up would be greatly appreciated. Dave.

This should be what you need.  The same for my v50 II with Bosch electronic

Is it a Bosch alternator?
You need a rectifier and regulator as per Lucian
UVW are the 3 phases going to the rectifier
The regulator sends power back to the rotor slip rings.

Or perhaps a one piece option from Electrosport

I think with the Electrosport unit you lose the charge light & I'm not sure about warnings from them about running an Odyssey battery, I'd ask these questions if going that route

I did a write up on the old electrics on the LM 1000 and the charge system is identical, you can get the write up here, just go the charge circuit in it

http://www.thisoldtractor.com/guzzitech.dk/gb_en_complex-technical_charging-around-the-circuit.htm

I believe Sachse does a combined reg/rec unit too, but I could not get access to his site

Here is a photo of mine when I stripped it

Yellow wires are the output, going to the rectifier, any order will do, but they are heavier gauge, I'd use at least 2.5mm^2 to be on the safe side

Y is the star point going to MP on the rectifier

Purple is the field connection coming from the regulator DF+

On mine the DF-, isn't required as it earths through the stator casing this may or may not be the same for yours

Hope that helps a little

John

When I re-loomed my Cal2 the pigtail on wiring loom for alt is separate, same alt, board and reg.

OK guys many thanks for your info and advice, it looks like the esr450 is the best and easiest route to go they are quite expensive motorworks are selling them at £90 I will try and find a better deal but it looks like they are the only British retailer, unless you can suggest any other suppliers. cheers. Dave.
