I thought it might be some form of Ai.  But I did not see the post you deleted.

General Discussion / Re: Average Ownership of a 1400
« Last post by et18 on Today at 07:59:09 PM »
I bought a '14 Touring in 2017, found it right here in the Swap Meet page.  Still my favorite bike and I have no plans on selling it.  It sits next to a '13 R1200RT that is better in every measurable way but just doesn't give me the same feeling when I ride it as the 1400 does.  My only mods were to add a MG tour pack, Corbin seat with rider's back rest and some clear hand guards.  It's only been in the shop twice: Once for steering head bearings and once to have alternator belt changed, all other repair and PMs were done in my garage.  I'm not crazy about changing the rear tire every 5K, and usually the rear pads with it since they only last another 1K past the tire, and something small happens every few years that I have to fix (ignition switch, plug wires, oil leak, etc).  But I've never ridden any other bike that's as pleasant to ride as this one.  1500 bikes sold over 7 years?  With better marketing and a wider dealer network they could have sold many times that number.

I deleted my last post containing responses from Claude. I tried again, simply typing in the title of this thread. Claude answered basically what we have come to on our own.

This time I noticed Claude was citing sources including practicalsailor.com (if I have that right), a manufacturer of greases, and wildguzzi.com! This is discouraging. If we want a definitive technical analysis, Claude is evidently not our bot.

Garbage in, garbage out: that's an old computing maxim that I don't seem to hear much about lately.

You can see what Claude responds by entering this thread's title at duck.ai. Claude won't know it's you.

By the way, I just noticed the owners manual for my 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 specifies "petroleum jelly" on the battery posts.

Who is Claude?

General Discussion / Re: Why does a spark plug cost 50 dollars?

Turned out the shop that had them in stock took USD 31 a piece, 62 bucks in total, without a hint of apology. Someone is making money from this. Also, the top of the pops sparkies in my Skoda suddenly looks like a screaming deal.

Maybe you are just getting hosed because you resemble a rich, famous person like Brad Pitt or Sean Connery?

Very cool.  Super unique!!!

Please don't let me down by not implementing some Bat Cycle styling.

At the very least maybe a small salamander heater on the back for jet assisted boost and to keep the tailgaters off your ass!

Maybe a stereo to play the Batman theme song at 180 decibels....

Thank you Steve. But, serious question: why can't you 'crab' the 1400 frame off the engine/transmission?

When the 1400s were going down the assembly line, was the frame lowered onto the engine/transmission or was the engine/transmission lifted up into the frame?

Given the side of the road that you drive, I'm surprised that the sidecar isn't on the opposite side, to give the driver/rider a better view of the road.
Wonderful engineering going on there.  :thumb:

I never get to ride in my hack all these years only 1 time at the sidecar rally my friend Kurt who built my sidecar took the bars so I could enjoy the hack on way to dinner.

Funny thing about this, I’ve had a side car rig since 1996, I’ve given several rider friends rides in it, besides our kids, dog and wife, but have never had the opportunity to be taken for a ride. Probably cus I tell my friends about the learning curve, they love the ride but are reluctant to drive. Maybe I’ll try to beg a ride from Chris Collins at the Wisc rally this year.
