Great video! There was a hard working mechanic in my home town in Italy back in the late 70's early 80's that would a few times a year take out his silver GTAm (I believe, had wider wheel wells/fenders and the single/large headlights per side) a couple times a year, tear through town like that, wake the dead, then park it in his shop before the cops would even be notified. He was an interesting character, hardly socialized with anyone but was a great car mechanic. That car was his life's pride and joy.

Yeah, "only" $59,900 for that Sprint, vs. $169,900 for this Spider:

Well I'm out of touch. I knew the price of Montreals doubled a couple of years ago. Alfetta GT and GTVs (116) are still cheap!
-
The car i wish i never sold. The GTV6.
True love that was. I really miss it.
-
Oh man, I miss these. Alfas were our family cars forever; between my parents and my wife and I, we had ten of them over a period of 45 years, from 1965 to 2010. We had over a million miles on the lot of them, total. Most of them went 150K to 200K miles each.
Dad had two 1965 GTVs, a 1965 2600 Spider, a 1969 Berlina 1750, and two 1967 Giulia Supers. My wife had a 1964 Guilia Ti, and a 1981 GTV6. I had a 1973 Berlina 2000, and a 1967 GT Jr. Fine automobiles.

What IS it about Alfas?
Non Alfisti will never understand.
I do think my Guzzi is a 2 wheel version.
Better out there but the Guzzi just dose IT for me whatever that is. Same way as my Alfas did.
-
Funny, I think of my alfa as a 4 wheeled Guzzi
-
it is interesting.
I'm a late comer to Guzzi's and have wholly succumbed to the affliction.
Forever, the early 70's GTV's have been at the top of my lust list. Unlikely I'll ever be able to indulge.
-
I just blew the head gasket on my 76 alfa spider can I join the club???
-

Look on the bright side. You are able to say that!!
I wish i could. Nice problem to have.
-
So we agree, Guzzi is the Alfa, what Ducati is to Ferrari. Makes perfect sense to me. I would rather own a Guzzi and an Alfa, they the over the top Ducati/Ferrari combo!
-
They're all desirable. I've been very happy with Ducatis for the last 25 years. My short list for my next bike includes both Ducati and Moto Guzzi options (as well as possibilities from KTM and Motus).
I loved all the Alfas our family had over the last few decades. If I had the money, a Ferrari would be on the list, too. Many Maseratis are also tempting, as well as the occasional Lancia.
I did go test drive a new Alfa Giulia sedan today. I was pretty impressed. Taut, sharp, firm ride, not too big or boaty like most newer cars are. I'll need to try one on a more fun road to see better how it handles, and would have to try out the paddleshift option, but I got a favorable first impression.

One of Giugiaro's best designs. Whether full size as in this 2600 Sprint, or scaled down as in the GTV (several examples above), or scaled up as in the Gordon-Keeble (below), always a beautiful design. I think he may have used it on a couple other cars as well. Maseratis of the period, maybe?

Very nice video indeed!
I have been somewhat seriously thinking about an earlier Spyder recently.
This is my buddy's '69 GTV 1750. I've ridden in his, what a HOOT! That's a seriously intoxicating car.

Ah GTV's. I have owned several back in the days when you bought them for 3-5k$. I still have the very first one I bought in the early 80's.
Just finished having it repainted. What a great design. What a great car to drive. Everyone wants original. I preferred them with extra hp and sport suspensions. Downgrades the value. Upgrades the smile.

The happiest 2 days in an "Alfista"'s life?

Seriously, though, I had a 1971 1950 Spider from 2007 to 2009 that I enjoyed tinkering with and driving almost daily. If I had room in the garage, I would still have it today.

When I look at those late model Alfa Romeos that appear very much like Fiat versions of BMWs to me, the link below is what I think about. I’ve had quite a bit of conversation with the former chief engineer for AR North America, the guy who guided them to racing victories with GTVs at Sebring etc. The stories of the end of his career do not motivate me to buy a 2019 Alfa, as much as I enjoyed and admired the three Arese built cars I’ve had. In fact, I hear the Japanese calling ever louder every time the time comes to buy a new car

And then Fiat killed Alfa before copying BMW and using the badge only. A deeply inspired move... (not)
also true....Alfa invented the sport sedan. BMW copied it. Fiat destroyed and saved ALfa. Alfa selling Beemer copies.
More or less where we're going here.
Almost bought and Alfa a couple of times. Like I almost did many things.

Anyways as I'm late for Alfa Tuesday, here's a Alfa Wednesday picture of my Giulia sprint GT Veloce 1600, the home of the engine I posted pictures of in my T5 restoration thread.

The Montreal was so cool!
I was never a big fan of the Montreal itself; the looks never grabbed me. But I liked that it had that sweet little V8. I once heard that a French dealership at the time built 25 GTVs with Montreal engines, but I have been unable to confirm that, so I'm thinking it wasn't true. :( That would be sweet, though. It's pretty much the same chassis as the Berlina; I wonder how hard it would be to convert a Berlina to Montreal running gear? That would totally rock.

The looks are bit love or hate thing. I like the looks of it. But the engine is indeed the gem of the car! It is an awesome "little" engine! Sounds and pulls great
The Montreal is based on a widened Giulia base and the basic suspension components are similar. There is a range of them that has been modified to cope with the extra weight and power of the v8.
With work the v8 should be able to be fitted to a berlina, but first you need to find one :) There is one guy on Alfa BB who bought one that needed a full overhaul with new pistons and liners and he had to cash out 7000$. For the engine only that is!

I'm torn on the SZ. Attractive at some angles, hideous at others.
I'd like to get my GTV6 up to that spec.

Anybody driving one will likely be in Australia or Europe - they weren't sold in the US.

Hi guys and gals, its me. Not dead yet. In fact, feeling better, really! So the forum attendants are wheeling me back in, and leaving me with all my old wild guzzi friends, for a while. Cheers!

My bike is sleeping till warmer weather but I have been thinking of trading my 1 ton pickup truck for a small Italian pocket rocket, that is cheap, fun, and sounds great. This thread is timely.
This is what I am thinking of getting soon ... used of course, a 2016 Fiat Abarth Light weight Italian designed 2 door with a 1400cc 4 cylinder turbo charged 160 horsepower, front wheel drive and stock open exhaust system. Ciao Baby!

Gotta go now ... but if anyone has an opinion on one of these I'd be very interested to learn as much as possible. Thanks!
I leave you with this very funny commercial for the Abarth.... Seduction! https://vimeo.com/32318970
