NGK Plug Caps
« on: June 05, 2023, 10:29:28 PM »
Searching today for NGK 90 degree 1K plug caps. My favorites are the ones that snap onto the stud, not those threaded nuts. Hard to find!

Found out that NGK ceased plug cap production last year. Damn! Who woulda figured???

What do you guys use instead?

Where did you hear NGK ceased producing caps?
They still list caps on their site as a non-automotive product.

NEVERMIND I went hunting and most sources list them (and their equivalents) as unavailable or discontinued.

LB05FP listed as available and is same as F except they supply a rubber boot that seals cap to the plug. It's removable.

Searching by stock number helps sometimes with some retailers (found on complete chart above)

https://www.ngk.com/
www.amazon.com
https://boatstore.com
https://www.boatersland.com/

I have no relation with or knowledge of these retailers. Deal at your own risk.

The caps seem to be out there.

Good luck! Leave some for me!!!

As I recall, it was the NGK distributor who told me they quit producing caps last year.

The bikes with electronic ignition need 5K ohms, but points do fine with 1K ohm. For some reason the 1K caps are getting scarce, while the 5Ks aren't going away as quickly.

I prefer the style that plugs directly to the stud, rather than the nut, but they seem to be impossible now. Not even listed in the chart.

Oreilley lists the 8011, except it's out of stock. Doubt it will ever be back in stock. :-(
And the rest of these sites - it sure can be difficult trying to find anything. They pop up with pages of disrelated junk.

This is something I have recently come across as well. I was also told that NGK had ceased production of the plug caps.  I was able to find 2 at an old motorcycle shop, who happened to have 2 on the shelf.  HOWEVER, the newish design spark plug (also an NGK) had a larger diameter non-removable cap.  The good old NGK spark plug caps would not fit on the newer plug.  I was left with the only option being the OEM plug caps, (made by NGK, interestingly enough) to solve my arcing issues.

Some vendors list them as "resistor caps" rather than spark plug caps.  I called RockyMountainMC/ATV and they didn't have anything available either.  This was working on a 2019 Can-Am Maverick.
