Always wanted to ride Death Valley. Visit Maine and see some lighthouses. Key West on a motorcycle (been there many times in car).
We FINALLY managed the Colorado 550 and other interesting roads "out there", plus the Grand Canyon, etc. :bike-037:
What are your road trip plans for 2023 ?
-
Kuwait, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Saudi, Qatar, and a few other places. All for work. Can't see much more, but hope to get to explore KY and area on 2 wheels.
-
Death Valley would be fun on a motorcycle, so long as the panniers and jacket are filled with ice packs!
I’m playing the broken record—going to reattempt last year’s failed trips of both MABDR (clutch/driveshaft) and Newfoundland & Labrador (stator). Looking forward to checking them off the list so I can move and begin planning for the next overseas trip.
-
I have a KOA Kabin reserved in the Texas hill country the week after Easter. It's time the "Twisted Sisters" and I got acquainted :thumb: Hopefully all the bluebonnets will be doing their thing then

We stayed in a cabin.... in Bandera. Watch out for large animals on the road and huge turkey buzzards !

I rode to Death Valley from N Kentucky on my Norge in April; spent 3 days riding in and around the NP. One of the best rides of my life! Temp in the valley got into mid 90's, which was no big deal. However, on the way, it was pretty cold in a few areas, such as Flagstaff, AZ.
Keep this ride on your bucket list; just select a good time of year and keep an eye on the weather.

Death Valley is very nice, but I highly recommend Titus Canyon Narrows at the extreme northern edge of the valley. It is a one way trip from NV to CA direction through a fantastic winding slot canyon. Don't miss it if you go out there.
-
I have one trip planned to visit three motorcycle museums. A couple near Monterey and the one in Solvang where a MG V8 lives. A second trip to Eastern Nevada to visit a couple of old mining towns and Great Basin National Park. Also a day in Ely for a second visit to the Northern Nevada Railroad Museum. I will ride the train this time pulled by a steam engine. It runs 365 days a year and runs on time to the minute. You ain't on it by then you ain't goin, they wait for nobody.

I've been everywhere, man.. been to Death Valley, Maine, Key west, tucumcari and Joan of Arc. Wrote a song about it.. If I had to choose I'd take the Maine trip by far.

I agree about the Maine location.
Wife snd I went a couple years ago and spent a few days with Lucian (WG mentioned) who lives on the coast near Portland.
We got to see some of the local sites, including the PORTLAND HEADLIGHT lighthouse. Absolutely visit that area if anyone can. Just don’t eat the clams unless you are accustomed to how those folk’s prepare them. 🤔

I've stayed here 10 out of the last 12 years , their camping cabins have 2 bunk beds and your own front yard + burn pit . Bring your mini water hose and you can wash your bike at your cabin. : https://www.kerrvilletx.gov/1737/Mini-Cabins
Been out to see the "Sisters" every trip . :thumb:
They're a friendly trio ! On the second trip try the Dirty Sister (cut through the middle). Its a dirt road so bring your cleaning rag.

Be sure to visit the Bent Rim Grill , Luckenbach , Stone Hinge 2 and Kendalia General Store (the ride to get there is half the fun)
That's my bike on the far left in the first picture.

Tentative plans for the west coast of Ireland. Things are tight both financially and we have some family issues coming up but hope I can do it. Also at least one club race day, and a weekend in Dorset so I can properly walk around the Bovington Tank Museum; I went there a few years ago and its quite amazing but I didn't give it enough time. Some more bike camping. Red Kite Rally.
Plus, in non Guzzi related travel AT LEAST one bluegrass festival.
-
Im really hoping to get the bike out to our place on Cape Cod. I tried last year, but something always came up. I really need a better seat first, and all my fun money is going to get a old car up and running, so who knows.

Other than work travel, and spontaneous multi-day rides based on weather, I am planning to ride the length of the BRP again, but this time on the Road Glide and then head over to Williamsburg, VA for a Road Glide gathering. Will probably take a route home through WV, and KY.

I'd like to take the Ural through the Trans Massachusetts Trail.
Bought the new Zumo in hopes of downloading the charts.
Old Zumo wouldn't accept that many waypoints.
Plan on taking the T3 camping up to Labrador.
Really nice being in such a secluded landscape.
I fell 200 miles short last fall.
I need to figure out how to carry extra fuel.
I think the V11 should go somewhere.
Not sure where though.

I also see those Desert Fox soft fuel bags pop up on ADVRider occasionally. I’m sure they could strap over a tank easily enough.
Do Labrador in August and maybe we’ll cross paths!

Back end is already pretty full with camping gear.
This was my temporary solution.
I suppose I only need them for a couple of trip segments.
Could give them away when I rejoined civilization.
I just prefer rigidly mounted things.

* The annual Datil, NM Guzzi Rally in late August...if they schedule one for 2023...

I plan on going over again to the Dolomites with a group of friends. I can just never get enough of that area. Later in the fall we will be taking the small bikes to Moab, Utah for a week of off road riding. Hopefully I can squeeze in another long trip besides the day/weekend trips. I put nearly 10k miles on this second V85 last year.
-
Well it won’t be Europe.
But I would do Australia on the CT110 again with the right travelling companion.

It's time I update the photos of the bike.

LOL Ya, I can see your point. Ive spent so little time in Vt. I really should hit it up more. Its not that far at all for me, and some nice riding. I really should not complain being I am in some of the best riding aera of the east coast. Im only about 10 min from the point the Mass pike enters NY, and im within a half hour of the Berkshires, the Catskills, and a hour from the Adirondacks. That on top of living smack in-between the foothills of the Berkshires, and the Hudson valley.. I turn out of my driveway and am in great riding.
-
Local trips to TWO Suches, Suches Ga. Various not far camping trips within Southeastern U.S. and not much else this year! Life is good!

Huzo, I know the “Posties” are a cherished gem down under, but is touring the country on one a thing? There’s a YouTube channel called Biker Bits that I followed for a short time, and he did a little tour on one. Was wondering if it was a rite of passage for motorcyclists just left of normal ;)

I don’t know if it’s considered a rite of passage as such Dirk, here in Australia any more than anywhere else.
I think it probably does say something about you if you do it, I’m just not sure what it is and do you really want to hear it…?

I'm planning on celebrating my 69th BDay at the MotoGP Ducati Island at COTA. Perhaps a few days in the Hill Country afterwards. Unfortunately, we've lost our Guzzi/Duc riding buddy in Austin, Mike Prentiss, so it looks like I'll be doing it all solo.
anyone heading there, give me a buzz.
I'm definitely going to make a trip or two to NW Ark. Not sure how I can arrange a trip to Colo on a bike but would like to try. Doesn't look like there are any Guzzi rallies in nearby states anymore.
-
My '22 plans to ride the Tail of the Dragon on my way to our nations capitol were derailed, so I'm gonna try for that again.

A big year for me for 2013.
On Monday I start off from Florida to go out west heading along the southern routes due to the time of year.
I am traveling by van with my V7 on the back on a carrier. I will be traveling slowly probably doing a couple of hundred miles a day.
I hope that if there are some other wildguzzi members along the way that would want a visitor for a day or two that we could meet up and go on a ride, weather permitting.
Most likely I will end up in S Arizona or New Mexico for the remaining winter months although I may go all the way to the coast. I used to live in San Diego and love the riding just inland from there.
I may circle around to some other more northern states as spring and summer roll around. I also love the pacific north west.
Maybe by fall I will be ready to fly overseas. High on my list are South America, likely first and then off to SE Asia, though that might be next year.
I want to travel slowly spending a month or two or possibly more in each country. While traveling overseas I will just have a carry-on only.
Traveling by van I will have most everything with me including Guzzidiag cables, a Twinmax and a kitchen sink.
While traveling by van I will keep updating my thread titled 'Traveling by Van' so my approximate whereabouts will be known.

I would like to ride the Scandinavian countries this summer and perhaps the Baltics nations as well. Hopefully Air Canada will reinstate their fly and ride program where they fly your motorcycle in cargo anywhere international that Air Canada flys from late May to September.

Slovakia, to see the Tatra mountains, then back to the Dolomites via Budapest.

My wife and I visited las year on our v85’s, we were both underwhelmed, maybe it was just us. Sicily though was superb, more interesting in my view ( That trip was on my v11 via Croatia and Bosnia)
Just my opinion.
April we are off to Morocco and September Italia again.
-
Not sure yet.
The Gaspe Peninsula is an option.
So is the New River Gorge in West Virginia.
Maybe all of Route 6 across Pennsylvania on the way
down.
And some unpaved stuff in Maine I think, too.
Some day trips to New Hampshire, Vermont, and upper New York State, too.
I might even get down to Connecticut for an event.
Lotsa options!! :azn: :azn: :azn:

I’ve ridden in Sardinia, Sicily and Corsica but the one that I’ve been back to three times is Corsica. Sardinia is great for riding but the geography is very similar to California, which is not so far away for me, and it feels maybe slightly boring to me for that reason. We are all the products of previous experience.
Corsica is smaller for sure, but to me has a great mix of terrific riding and nice places to stay and see.
-
I'll be in southeastern Kansas, Cedar Vale in mid May, 11-15 to be exact. Nice long ride for me, maybe longer if I can make it longer.

A guy I know has a Suzuki 650 stored at his mother in law’s place across the road from me. It wasn’t running and I found that it was a gone stator, so a new e bay one and a new battery and it runs great.
He said if I want to ride it up to Darwin, he’ll pay the costs and cover the trip back home by jet.
It’s one of these.

I told him there’d be no camping and he’s fine with that.
Here’s the trip.

I’m not head over heels to do it, but I guess it’s an opportunity.
I told him that if it breaks down, he has to be prepared that I’ll put in some effort to fix it, but at some point I’ll walk away..
Some insurance might be a good idea in case it develops a fuel leak an “catches fire…”
Anyway..
We’ll see around June when the wet season eases off..

Change of plans. My wife wants to go to Solvang, she doesn't ride, we will 5th wheel that trip. So I will go to the Broken Arrow Rally in Gibbonsville Idaho instead. On the way there I intend to checkout the nation's first nuclear reactor near Arco. I tried to go there two years ago but it was closed due to -.

There's an outfit in British Columbia that publishes a backroads map book that offers detailed coverage of main roads, secondary roads, backroads, forest service roads and trails. Good for studying and dreaming about where to go and plan for a day ride, overnight rides, longer rides, rides by fish bearing streams and near to remote little lakes. If you can get such a thing for your neck of the woods, it gives you lots to consider while you wait for the weather to improve. The edition I bought has about 90 pages of maps, each of which links to the next. I can easily blow an hour laying on the couch deciding where to go next, how to get there and back to make a circle route.

I am planning to stay in my home Province and get lost in its vast area of 251,900 m2 (651,900 km2) which contains over 250,000 km of road surface. Saskatchewan sustains only 2% of Canadas population but contains 20% of Canadas roads, no need to go elsewhere for a ride I figure. DonG

If the snow melts and the crick don't stay up too long, I'll switch from four legs to two wheels, pull the EVT outta the shed, and get up outta this holler in the spring.
Hope to join some lunch rides in The Four States region and wander over to the 'vale in mid May.

It would be nice to get some of crew back together. It's getting more difficult over time. Crotchety old men, sometimes it's their hip, next time it's their ego, it's always something.

Nice looking quarter horse Mike!
I miss my cowboy up days and nights at the horse camps in the Smokys.
This picture I was heading out for a 3 day trip crossing Va on the Virginia Highlands horse trail.

The BMW 50th national rally is on the east coast this year outside of Richmond in June. The BMW guys I ride with say these are a Big Deal so I'll be attending my first one.
Beyond that I may join some folks for an overnight ride to upstate NY.

The Missus says that we're heading to the Grand Canyon. She hasn't said when.
Also - Durango, Colorado.
-
I'm riding my Stelvio down to the Quota-Treffen in S. West France in July.
I may go back to Mandello on it in Sep, for the Anniversary weekend, and possibly go from there down to Portugal.

I *like* Durango. Don't miss the Durango Silverton railroad trip. Take a bus to Silverton, maybe hire a jeep and check out old silver mines, take the train from Silverton to Durango. You'll be glad you did.

We rode the Million Dollar Highway four times when we were last there. The Wife loved it.... while going north. The southern passage kind of freaked her out, riding along the outside with no guardrails.
Good idea on hiring a jeep.

Here's the train..

When we did the million dollar highway, Dorcia was hanging out of the side of the sidecar taking pictures. Same climbing Pike's peak.

Only thing on the books so far is AMA Vintage days in July and Ohio and KY rallies in Sept. Just found out I have to have my left ankle recostructed in May so that will be 8-10 weeks non weight bearing, so first part of the riding season is screwed. Gettin' old ain't for sisses!

Was on Mount Nebo (Jordan) this week, amazing roads. Unfortunately on 4 wheels not two, but not sure I’d risk it on a MC local driving habits. VERY few MCs spotted the last 2 weeks. A shame because the roads are great.
