Finally low enough humidity and a little time to work yesterday evening, so I painted the left damper and adjuster. Assembled the shock today and installed.

I finished up two customer projects yesterday, so today cleaned up the mess I made in the process, and then rearranged things a bit. The Morini went from the center of the shop to the back, on Lift #1. Spent a little time this evening remembering how the shift linkage all went together and taking notes of what hardware I lacked. It's all together, but with stainless bolts and I want grade 8.8 for this application.

I could have saved myself a lot of time if I had taken a few notes and more photos during disassembly. The US mandated left-side shift adds a bit of complexity and I found myself wondering why I didn't just find a right-foot shift setup.

Fiddled with the brake side as well, just putting the pedal into place and accessing the condition of the cable. The cable is in very good condition, just a bit "cosmetically challenged".

A blingy gold snake slithered onto the workbench at the end of the evening, so I chopped it's tail off and installed it onto the bike.

The axle adjusters are fully aft and it's nowhere near tight, so I think it needs two more links off of it yet. At least I didn't cut it too short.

Finished up the chain - removed two links and carefully adjusted the chain.

Morinis have no marks or anything, so you need to figure out some way of checking alignment. I use the laser of my infrared thermometer. Place the top of the thermometer against the rear sprocket, pull the trigger and see where the dot points to on the countershaft sprocket.

The laser is 8 mm from the face of the rear sprocket, so I aligned it so that the dot was 8 mm from the face of the countershaft sprocket.

Tension correct, so the right engine cover is temporarily refitted again.

Next up, I cleaned the brake cable and installed it.

Something isn't quite right here - the adjuster is the whole way out for the pedal travel to be close to correct. It was this way before I disassembled the bike too. Brake linings are approx. 5 mm thick, so still usable. The cable just seems a bit too long. I might make up a spacer to take up some of the cable length.

Nice work. Takes me back, I had a lovely wire wheel 350 Strada back in the early 90's I never should have sold. Those threaded exhaust ports were quite common. I had mine painted yellow and black, nice handling sweet little bike when they are running and set up right. Looking forward to seeing the old girl finished

I had a little time to spare this evening, since no mowing the yard, due to rain. Got the ladder and fetched the big Motostoriche Italian box from high up on the shelf where I stuck it shortly after it arrived back in February(?). Collected all the misc. bits together - half rings, gasket and new header nuts. The header pipes are well made - double wall, nice bends and chrome - but the crossover fits loosely onto the stubs. Too large of inner diameter and no cuts at the ends so the clamps can even have an hope of compressing it enough. So, I made three cuts (somewhat) evenly spaced. Gave the pipes and clamps and good coat of wax and then set about installing it all. The half-rings are fussy to hold into place during assembly, so I stuck them into place with Permatex Ultra Black RTV. Same with the gaskets. Threads were coated with copper anti-seize. Installed the left/rear cylinder pipe first.

Applied Ultra Black to the stubs and inside the ends of the crossover and slipped it into place. Then the right/front cylinder header attached to the head and rotated down so the stub went into the crossover.

Installed the heat shield to the rear header, snugged everything up and called it done.

Loosely fitted the airbox as the last thing for the day.

Hi Antietam.
Your rear brake cable?, welcome to the world of Morini parts! hehe!. I can think of at least three different lengths of cable, and I think that's before we get to the ones for rear set footrests, and crossover conversions. On one of my sports I had to relocate the brake lever on the drum to get it to work. Stewart at NLM used to know which one to use by just telling him what set up you had. I'll bet there's one specifically for the crossover conversion?. Try a post on the Morini forum?.
Good luck, wonderful little bikes!.
Alan.

The rear brake cable is the one the bike came from the factory with as far as I know. The arm has already been rotated another spline to make it work and I added some slip on extensions at both anchor points. Works fine now, but I don't really like using the extensions. I'll either make a single, longer extension fitting or just alter (shorten) the cable to fit better. No biggie.

Cleaned up the mufflers and test fitted them today. They look good from 10 feet away, but up close there's lots of "patina". But, they'll do until I can afford a pair of new ones.

A little more done the other day. Nothing spectacular, but progress is progress.

Cleaned, polished and installed the forward chain cover. Cleaned, lubed and installed the clutch cable.

Not sure I'll use this type of hose for the engine breather.

Steering damper initially worked *okay*, but once I cleaned all the crud caked around the seal area, it began leaking profusely. Not sure it even needs one. May just remove the bracket and call it good.

Pulled the horn apart for cleaning and painting.

I suggest letting it leak out all its oil and then mount it for aesthetic purposes. It looks the biz but is unnecessary, and when these dampers actually work, they cause the mounting bracket to bend and eventually break.

The US seems to be the only market where Stradas were actually fitted with steering dampers in the first place. I won't be mounting it "for aesthetic purposes" - if it doesn't function, then it will be replaced or removed entirely.

The header cross over joints on my 500 continue to leak even after repeated tightening. I think I need to make some cuts like you did to attempt to get the system to seal.

A few photos from the other day I forgot to post. I was working up an order to McMaster-Carr and remembered I needed side cover knobs. Pulled the sidecovers out and measured the maximum diameter that would fit without interfering. That done, I put the new rubber isolators on the frame prongs and hung the sidecovers just for the heck of it.

Holy crap! It was longer than I thought since I last worked on the poor Morini. It must have figured I forgot about it. Anywho, now that the Convert engine that was on lift #1 is together, I snuck the Morini on for a day or two.

Didn't feel like riding today, cold and dreary out, so fired up the woodstove in the shop and got a little something done. Finished up the shift linkage - just needed to add seals on two joints, replace the stainless hardware with 8.8 zinc-plated and grease the bellcrank.

Installed the footpeg and shift pedal rubbers.

Started installing some electrical items. Terminal block just behind the steering head...

Fuse block and voltage reg/rec. The fuse cover was very yellow and rough feeling. I wet sanded it with 2000 grit wet/dry and polished it with plastic polish, but it only looks a little better.

Mounted the ignition transducers.

Cleaned the ignition switch and installed it.

Ditto with the speedometer cable.

Paying work, riding, and just general "life" gets in the way sometimes. I hope to continue chipping away at the "to do" list over the next few weeks.

Another baby step... Had a little time this evening, so worked on the wiring a little. Cleaned the headlight/signal/horn switch and harness, plus the short harness that connects the switch to the headlight.

Wiring for the left switch exits the top instead of the side like on Guzzis.

First connections made.

Sheathing for this short harness was petrified.

Headlight wires on the right and front signals on the left.

A few more connections made.

Probably should have went out for a ride since it was ~ 60 degrees and the weatherguessers are calling for a foot of snow on Wednesday. But, I felt the need to get a little more done on the Morini instead. It's time on the back lift is nearing an end for a while, so I wanted to complete a few tasks that wouldn't be as easily done on the floor.

First up was to install the ignition pickup. That ended abruptly though - the sheathing for the wires was hard and cracked, and I don't have a piece 36" long. Put that on my list...

Moved on to installing the alternator stator. This went well and before I remembered to take a photo, the flywheel was back on.

Connection made to the reg./rect. and fuseblock.

Worked on a bunch of the small harnesses. This connects the battery to the fuseblock. Amazingly, the (43 year old) little rubber boots were in perfect condition.

Couple more connections. Taillight, rear brake light switch.

Need to crimp on terminals for the brake switch.

Crimped on and connected.

Speedometer illumination. I'm not sure which speedometer I'll use (NOS generic or have an original rebuilt), so it'll hang loose for now.

The front signal wires attach to this connector block.

Short jumpers from one terminal of the fuseblock to another (power for the signals) and from the fuseblock to the reg./rect. The ignition switch is all connected as well (forgot to shoot a photo of that).

Power wire to the horn and few other connection at the terminal board.

Put new sheathing on the wires to the tachometer and connected that.

High beam warning light done, other two warning light sockets cleaned and new bulbs installed.

These are the two remaining harnesses. One is signals and brake light.

This one has been hacked on a bit, need to see what under all that black tape.

The other connects the fuseblock to the terminal board.

Snuck in a little more work this evening. First, a photo of the ignition switch from last time. Rubber boot is in perfect condition.

Place holder flasher (it's new-old-stock but doesn't work) installed so I could run the wires.

Rear signal wires. Need terminals crimped on.

Both these brown wires connected "piggyback" to the electric petcock. It won't be using it, so with join them with a 1 to 1 Faston connector.

The rear signals connect to the front ones at the terminal block.

Headlight connectors.

Speedo light and front brake light switch wires. I need the tiny female spade terminals to finish this.

Everything is connected at the terminal board now...

...and also at the fuseblock.

Warning lights are all connected now.

Nice work finishing the spaghetti junction!  At first I thought the Moto Morini approach to wiring, individual wire components instead of a single bundle, was awkward. I now think Morini’s method is superior for troubleshooting and replacement. Looks like you are close to being able to fire it up.

Nice work finishing the spaghetti junction!  At first I thought the Moto Morini approach to wiring, individual wire components instead of a single bundle, was awkward. I now think Morini’s method is superior for troubleshooting and replacement. Looks like you are close to being able to fire it up.

Ignition pickup, plug wires, carbs, and throttle cables, then I can run it from a bottle. The tank needs lots of "love" - rusty inside, one dent. Need to save up enough $$ (not spend any on Pantah) to have the bodywork and paint done.
