fuel pump is now pumping on my 2000 moto guzzi

fuel pump isnt pumping. i tryed jumpimg it. no such luck. looked on ebay theres chinese pumps for 20.00...but i may have one at work. maybe 2 ...

Pull out the pump relay and poke a wire in from 30 to 87, you shouldn't need the key on for that.
Make sure the petcock is opening, the pump will struggle if it has to suck through a non working petcock
If you refer to the schematic I attached earlier you will see the jumper will power the pump directly.
If you substitute a 10 Amp meter for the jumper it should draw about 4 Amps if it's spinning freely but significantly higher if the petcock is closed or the filter clogged.
Don't leave the power on if it doesn't spin, it may be gummed up.
Some people report freeing up the pump by squirting carb cleaner into it.

Once you get it to spin it can be left on for a while pumping fuel through the filter and pressure relief valve to circulate back to the pump. It runs 24/7 normally.

Another fault you may get is the commutator covered in varnish insulating the brushes, I have seen that before with a bike sitting for years, there's not a lot you can do but spray in carb cleaner and perhaps a thump on the bench with power on, if you can get it to motor at all it will soon flush itself.

If it's just plain jambed you might try alternating the battery leads to rock it back and forth, let it soak for a couple of days in carb cleaner.

Before you buy some China knockoff ..Try flushing it with carb cleaner as suggested above.

I gotta think the pump has a place in the automotive world,with a much cheaper (guzzi content) part number.

 I looked everywhere for a replacement in the automotive world for a cheaper pump , someone did a write up in the old MGNOC newsletter about a pump that would work , no luck actually locating one . The *blue* pump from Quantum for $80.00 was the cheapest I could find , been running it now for about 15K miles with no issues . It is the fairly high pressure required that is the stumbling block with car pumps .

 I'm having the same issue with a 98 EV that has been off the road for 8 years. So thank you for the info and links.Thats why this forum is a great resource . I have been pouring Sea Foam into the fuel line so far nothing. Carb cleaner next.

This is pretty typical of a pump that's been sitting for a few years, I think the fuel inside evaporates to leave a layer of varnish on the commutator insulating the brushes (did it draw any current at all, spark when you touched the battery to the terminals?)
If you look at the pump drawing I posted the only way to get solvent inside is through the inlet. If you stand it on end and fill the pump with carb cleaner it just might break down the varnish enough to get some current flow then you could try rocking it back and forth by reversing the leads.

I bought an old Flying Brick in New Zealand it had a similar problem and my Bro KiwiKev managed to get it spinning again, never looked back.

Troy I got a used pump from a bmw $15.00 free shipping one year warrenty. Still working fine. Same part no ect took at least 10 min to replace. Used car parts . com I think If any body wants my old one let me know free worked fine but leaked at crimped end . O ring I think. O 95 call external.      Matt

and now its pumping...had leaks. couldnt get it ti run. getting spark at least. now to get it all figured out, not like my old gravity fed bikes!
