Road trip-Seattle to Mt. Morris MI
« on: August 15, 2022, 09:39:24 PM »
The end of day 1 sees me in Lincoln MT. The city park here has tent camping for $10/night.
Tomorrow, I head to Havre and take the high line (US 2)across the top of Montana.
I am on my way to a family reunion near Flint MI. Taking the northerly route through Duluth, the Apostle Islands, the U.P. and the Mackinaw bridge.

Years ago I drove (girlfriend was not going to ride) from Seattle to Marquette. Hwy 2 most of the way. Really enjoyed it, but nailed a deer. Be careful! And the state bird of North Dakota is the grasshopper- open your face shield and you won't have to stop for food!

Many years ago, I drove across the US (central Washington state to Connecticut) on US 2 in my 1953 Chevy "Handyman" wagon with my two young (at that time) kids. We tent camped most of the time, but "splurged" on classic motels once or twice. All of the trip was great but the U.P. in particular stands out in memory. Have a great trip!

I'm in Flint, very close to your destination.  We have been lucky to have great weather for the last few weeks; highs in the low 80's partly cloudy and ample and not too much rain.  I hope it lasts for your stay.

If you make Interlochen say hi to Frank Dituri, he’s one of the hosts. Close old friend. At the Seattle IMS 2014?

Really can’t say much good about U.S. 2 across Montana once you get east of Havre. Montana hwy200 seems better to me. Spent last night (Tuesday) at the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt N. P.  Spending today motoring across N. D. on hwy 200. I plan to stop early today in Twin Valley MN.

Crossed the Mississippi this morning; a grass-choked ditch at that point. It is good to get back amongst the trees after crossing the prairie. Currently having breakfast in Walker.

Am holed up in a motel with my uncle, Karl Werth. Some of you may know him from the rallies.
Family reunion tomorrow, then Sunday I head back to Seattle

Now I am on the flip-side. Left Mt Morris this morning in a light mist, 65*. Sacrificed half a day to the rust elf freeways and half a day to rural Illinois cornfields. I am at a state park in Versailles IL. $10.
For those who are sad because they have to work tomorrow, I have to cross Iowa.

Nearing the home stretch. Should get home Friday evening.
12 state gas price report for 91 octane: Ellensburg WA:$5.50, Gillette WY:$3.60.
Yesterday, I crossed Nebraska on U.S.20. This has always been a nice ride for me.
Today, I rode thru The Black Hills and visited Devils Tower, ending up in Ranchester WY.
Tomorrow, I cross the Bighorns on 14A, thru Cody, up the Chief Joseph Highway and Beartooth Pass, ending up in Big Timber, Mt.
Friday, I burn 740 miles on I-90 to get home Friday evening.
The Norge has been perfect and trouble free since I left Seattle 10 days and 4200 miles ago.
I have crossed a couple locations off my bucket list and have a couple to go.
Life is good.

Ellensburg - my hometown. Gas was always $0.10-$0.20/gallon higher than in Seattle or Yakima. You can't get to Ellensburg with a tanker truck without passing by either Seattle from the west or Yakima from the east on I-90 so how come the gas costs more....

But sounds like a great trip!

No, I don’t. I think the ECU usually takes care of advancing or retarding as necessary. But I usually do.
