How good are these Tom Toms ?
« on: January 28, 2023, 03:03:10 PM »
I know this showed up in another thread, but how good are these things ?

I mean, a predicted arrival time of 4:45 and an actual arrival time of 4:48
I’ll spare y’all the gory details, but I stopped for a wee for a minute on the way.
Extraordinary.
Interesting though, the distance to empty indicates 430 km at the start of the trip, yet at the end it’s done 500 km.
I guess the brain is calculating that endurance on the economy since the last re set.
Not complaining about that one though…!

I have the Rider 550 and it finds amazing routes through places no one goes. But it also took me on a trail, down a hill to a rocky stream crossing......on my V7III. I would have done it on the V Strom but not Sophia. You can program it to avoid unpaved areas but sometimes it slips up. Still, fantastic device.

Do you have it on the shortest route, or the fastest route..?
I was always told, the best route (sic) is the silliest one….

If I need to get some place quickly I will set for fastest, but usually I program it for more squiggles and it finds some really cool stuff. If you set it for the craziest it will take you to every dirt road and trail through the mountains that you can imagine. I would LOVE to try some of them on my V Strom, but at 65, and in no cell zones, not alone. I have two groups of guys I ride with, but none of them have any real dirt skills.
