I now have 40,344 miles on my 1200 Sport.
I’ve run REAR Michelin Pilot Road 4’s since the 9,600 mile mark with the following mileages...
11,175 miles
10,569 miles
The last rear tire change at 31,387 miles, I decided to try the Pilot 5 expecting similar mileage.
It has 9,000 miles on it and it is shot! The LEFT side is really worn!!! This never happened with the Pilot 4.
I’m going to have it replaced in the next week and will go back to the Pilot 4 or try the Dunlop Road Smart 3 or 4.
Anyone have any experience with the Dunlap Road Smart 3 or 4 rear tires?

I gave up on Pilots on my Greenie. I think I only got about
6k 4k on rear. I switched to Dunlop Roadsmarts. They handle better and cheaper, I've lost track of the mileage. I put them on my Ducati as well.
The Greenie has a 170 size rear, that might contribute to it eating tires. One of my riding buddies had the gaul to accuse the rider. :evil:

The Pilot 4 never wore that bad on one side. Amazing.

I simply cannot tell what you guys are doing. The performance you describe on the 4’s is in line with my experience, but your report on the 5’s is at odds.
My V85 has 12,000 k on it’s set and is about 60% gone. The one on the Norge will do around 18,000.

I had similar results on my LMIII, I won't get suckered in to that again. I ran a few sets of Michelin ANAKEES on the Tiger, they pretty much sucked too. The front would cup really bad and "bumps" would raise up on the sides of the tread every few inches. Very distracting in the corners :angry: I'm having much better results with the Shinko on the Tiger now. I'm done with Michelin. Over rated as far as I'm concerned.

I got 10,000 km out of the rear road 5 on my tiger.
The main reason was the horribly flat roads between Darwin and Brisbane and the 36 deg plus heat.
Did my best to round it off a bit on numerous trips up and down Mt Glorious but the centre wear was what killed it in the end.

I just turned 4K on the rear tire on the Stone, a Shinko tourer. It’s about 1/2 worn out, 75 bucks.

The only way I could get 9,000 miles out of a rear tire is if I rode it only in snow. On average I get 5,500 to 6,000 out of a rear or 1/2 that on the DR650. If I got 9K out of a rear I'd be extremely happy.

I buy tyres for grip, not mileage. Replace when needed, don't ever know how many miles I get out of them.
I've got a Pilot Road 5 on my CB1300, nice grippy tyre.

they most likely run terrible air pressure, I swear by 40 psi on my pilot 5 as do you from memory.

Just replaced the worn out Michelin Pilot Road 5 this morning with a Dunlop RoadSmart. Here are pictures of the left and right sides.

I've got a Pilot Road 5 on my CB1300, nice grippy tyre.
When you put over 20,000 miles a year on like me you are a little more concerned about tire mileage. It amazes me how my 107 M8 Road King can get 18,000 miles out of a OEM back tire and a 50 to 60 hp Triumph, Moto Guzzi, and NC750 can't get 50% of that. And my Road King will blow all three away.

I've had good luck with the Dunlops. Even if they don't go further, they're cheaper. I like the handling fine. I've got them on two bikes.
