Sweet, she’s a peach! Other than the king and queen seat that looks like my first bike, same color, too. Mine had Dunstalls though. Would be a great bike to have and ride. Were these really called Interceptors?

Is it my imagination, but do those seats primarily appear on Loops and early Tontis? Did other bikes of the same era sport them also? Yeesh, they kill any style the bike may have had, although style probably isn't the biggest concern to some.

But the stock Loop and Tonti seats were some of the best ever, IMO.

LOL. That is one of those "touring seat kits" that JC Whitney used to have in their catalogs. It was a cover pre-attached to the foam and was "supposed" to fit your pan! Just remove the old cover and foam and glue this one to it and voila! A touring seat!

I had many of these sent to me for rebuild in the decades I was in business. And I'm old enough to remember them in the catalogs. They were basically one size fits nothing and few owners had the skill to install one well. Most had the angles way off too. You were either butt way too high or butt way too low and they were miserably uncomfortable. You'd be crushing your nuts or sliding backwards off the bike.

Just a theory, but the reason you still see so many old bikes for sale like this is the owners were so badly uncomfortable with these seats that they stored the bike away til they died and never rode them again! Now we can buy them as projects!

JCW had seats like that in their catalogs right into the 90s I remember.

My first Guzzi was an 850 t in black, the stock seat was great, I could and did ride all day long on it.

That’s a great shot! My old T had a big Windjammer fairing like those on it when I got it. First thing I did was take it off! Were they sold new with Windjammers?

I paid $800 for one in similar condition. When It was all said and done I had another $1,500 to $2,000 in parts and lots of hours of labor to get it back to roadworthy. In the end had a $2,750 bike that took years to sell. Everybody claims to love these old Tonti's but not too many would actually buy one.

This is a later T with a filter in pan - a good thing.  Other than the butt-ugly seat,  she's a peach!

Looks to be in pretty nice shape.. well except for the seat..   But Id want to be into it for way less then the starting price not knowing if it has chrome cyls!!  Just making a driver out of it, your still looking at a few grand on top of the selling price. Is a old T worth $5k +??  only the buyer can answer that. I expect it to be a no sale at that price.

I like the bike but there is a world of difference between restorable and restored.  For me to dig into that one my price cap would be $1500.00. Depending on the desired level of finish, it would need $1000- $4000 in parts and a weekend to four months labor.  At the end it might be worth $7000 to the right buyer if fully fixed up. Ok, my price cap just fell to $1000.00.

To me that looks like just a change the main important stuff and ride it. Then when tired of it, sell it for about the same. It looks good as is, which is why I'd do it that way.

A definite look into the oil pan for residue.  I think he wants too much for it.

You’re a stronger man than I Groover.  I always swear I will just replace the tires and change the fluids, and then find myself hurling money at a chrome plater somewhere.

Don't know about that strength as I'm lining myself up again to restore some Le Mans, but just going off how I felt about restoring my G5 - I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I really love how it turned out and glad I did it, on the other hand I had it pretty reliably running at about 1K invested total, but after it was all set after and done after restoring, I also had close to 4K in it, with the added stress of having to worry about it getting scratched and all that. Before restoring it, I'd get off it like a cowboy and walk away with my pistols in my hands never looking back, but after restoring it I found myself parking it, then parking it a little better, grab my 100% cotton handkerchief to wipe down the bugs that I smashed off the headlight, lock it, turn around, make sure it was locked... you know, my enjoyment shifted a little... better or worst, I don't know. It's been 6 years since I restored it, and now I'm more loose about it, even parking it outside in the rain (under a cover), but took a few years to get there!

Of course I'm joking ( a little... ), but just saying that T3 looks like a good one to enjoy as-is with just the basics checked/redone (brakes, chrome liners, tires, wheel bearings, that kind of stuff).

There is a 1975T on the MGNOC classifieds in CO right now for $4500, rebuilt engine according to the owner, though he has some different side covers and seat on it, but it doesn't look too bad.  Thats the problem when your market is like this, when you can buy a nice one for around $4000, its hard to justify spending $2500 then have to restore it.
