Used Trailer Prices
« on: December 04, 2022, 07:49:06 AM »
I recently sold my 5x8 open flat aluminum m/c trailer and was surprised at how much it was worth. I paid $1400 for it new in 2008.  I maintained it well but it was used regularly and stored outside. I put it on Craigslist for $850 and it sold the next morning for full asking price to a trailer flipper who drove down four hours from Maine.  It was back on Craigslist two days later for $2200.00.  I only knew this since the second interested buyer was also a flipper who “kindly” texted me the ad.  I’m not really upset but I am surprised at what a 15 year old trailer will sell for.  Maybe it is short supply.  Here’s a picture for reference.  Boy did it rattle with that big rear ramp.  I also always had visions of a strap letting go and a bike going “over the rail “ at highway speeds.

I’m in the same situation as you were in with a heavy duty tandem axle farm trailer that  I no longer need.
I did a little research to see what they were bringing before I priced it and yes trailers are high now.

Trailer values (new and used) have gone thru the roof, and availability is low.

I bought an Aluma TK1 maybe two years ago for $2,400.  Jack, spare, wheel chock included.  That same model is more than $4,250 now.

We had an Aluma MC10 that we purchased in 2017 with jack and spare at $1,825.  They're now $3,800.

It’s a trailer sellers market. Last year I replaced my 20 year old, 4x6 open bed trailer, with a 5x8, that can do double duty, bring home old Cycles, as well as mulch.

Advertised the 4x6 for $450. Sold in the first hour the ad broke. I had about 10 replies before it went, and had multiple offers above my ask. This was a well used trailer, with some rust, and chipping paint.

I'm sure the price of aluminum has something to do with it. I'd guess steel has gone up too but not that up to date on steel prices.

I will have my 6x12 enclosed, and converted to camper, until I no longer need a trailer.  Put a lifetime plate on it.

Now is a great time to sell if you are just selling and not replacing.  That goes for most consumer products.

I just checked on the price of the new replacement trailer I bought six months ago.  2022 EZ Hauler 6x12 enclosed aluminum. I didn’t haggle and paid the asking price of $5500.00. The same trailer is advertised now for $6500.00 to $8,000.00.
