Brunswick stew tonight
« on: July 25, 2021, 01:04:07 PM »
Did upa little BBQ for some friend the other night so I have the prime fixin's for a good ole Brunswick stew

1lb smoked pulled pork
1lb smoked brisket
1lb grilled (in this case oven baked) chicken thighs

Homemade BBQ sauce
Diced potato
Diced onion
Cream corn
Peas
Lima beans
Stewed tomato
Chicken broth
Butter

Here she is with with the meats in with potato, onion, and chicken broth. Once the potato are about 3/4 done in goes the rest for a 2 hour simmer. I'll then stick it in the smoker for a hour or so over apple wood.

A few more friends to the party:

Lets stir things up:

Garage smells good. Gonna serve with some Jiffy cornbread muffins

Many years ago we were driving around America and saw an article on the evening news about the winner of the annual Brunswick Stew competition. As we were just up the road a bit we dropped in for lunch the next day (Brunswick Station Cafe, Brunswick GA). Never had it before, never had it since. But the memory lingers. I guess sending a bowl over to Oz could be a bit tricky.

I thought Brunswick stew was mixed small game: rabbit, squirrel, etc.

I've never heard of Brunswick stew before, but it sounds somewhat similar to what I've usually got gong in the stew pot.

The first time I had Brunswick stew was almost two years ago when in Brunswick GA. to attend training at FLETC. It's tasty stuff!

Cannot send a bowl but can sent the recipe. Two or three meats (smoked is best) of your choosing and then the veggies, butter and broth.

I thought Brunswick stew was mixed small game: rabbit, squirrel, etc.

Brunswick stew is a general term kind of like vegtable soup. The base is BBQ sauce the rest is up to you. I am much closer to Dixie than I am the Canadian border where we do have a plenty of small game in my area but even if it was in season I'd not use it. I much prefer beef, pork and chicken.

A tasty recipe and then you flat out spoil it with Jiffy cornbread mix. Surely you've had genuine cornbread that is made with stone ground corn, bacon grease etc in an iron skillet.
