Hi Folks;
I've been re-assembling my V40 Targa back into the frame, and the best manual I can find shows a couple of spacers between the engine and the lower frame rail. I don't seem to have these ( probably mis-placed somewhere) . Anyone have an idea what thickness they are ? I could just pack some washers in, but having the correct size would be good. The exhaust header fouls the head of the bolt and there's probably 6 or 8 mm of thread projecting past the nut on the RHS. It's item 31 on the attached image.
I imagine it's the same detail for a Lario or V75 Targa, if that helps.

Cheers in advance

They are probably just aluminum rod, just get a short length from the metal supermarket and make some. you can do it using regular hand tools or if you have a friend with a lathe it makes a better job.

Appear to be zinc-plated steel from the image on the Stein-Dinse website.

Since they seem to be common to all of the small-blocks, I'll see if I can get an accurate measurement of the ones on my V50 III.
Edit: No room to get any sort of measuring device in there without disassembly.

The one on the right side is important because it centers the swing arm, and yes, as Charlie says you have to pull the swing arm to measure it.

If I'm understanding Bazil correctly, he needs to know the dimensions of the spacers between the engine and the frame, at the front engine mounting bolt.

On the later (more modern) smallblocks these spacers lodge in a recess cast into the engine block. From memory about 3/4 inch long, and the seem to act as a guide & centering device for the engine through bolt. I may be able to get up to the Shed today - if so, I shall check the bits I have around - a disassembled Nevada & a Breva motor are on the bench - and get the dimensions. From memory, a coated steel - I did find one on the floor after reinstalling an engine no too long ago. Did wonder for a little while where it came from until it twigged - they don't usually fall out easily.

My bad. Again. <shrug> Misunderstanding on my part, obviously. They're zinc plated steel, (ahem) about 1 inch long, and as Charlie says, disassembly needed for measurement.

In the meantime, do note that part numbers for the bushes and for the M10 pin are the same for your V40 and the modern smallblocks (V7, Breva, Nevada at least - wouldn't surprise me if the V85 had the same as well, tho' haven't yet checked).

Thanks Mal, Chuck & Charlie - Wildguzzi is such a wealth of knowledge.
You're right Charlie - it's the front mounting bolt. Chuck - close but no cigar !
The V40 is a 91 model, but I figured it would be a pretty standard fixing across a number of years - can't imagine Guzzi changed it if they didn't need to. The frame is essentially a Lario frame. Not surprised it's still the same casting though.
Took a couple of snaps this morning, bolted and without the nut. The frame rails sprung out a little, but it's hard to see how I'll get a couple of 12 to 20 ? mm thick spacers between engine & rails without a bit of persuasion. Interesting comment that they sit in a recess - from what I can see in the pic that recess is only a few mm deep, so it may not help much. Bit hard to see with the rail in the way.
Mal I'd appreciate it if you could get a dimension on them - no hurry.
Cheers

There's a counterbore in the engine casting for the spacers to fit into.

Got to the Shed today. The spacers are 24mm long, with an OD of 20mm & an ID of 10mm. If your holes have an ID of 10mm, the spacers are still in the block - not uncommon. They can be extracted if required. I've found a broken spring puller useful for this job.

Thanks Malik, thats brilliant.
I'll check it out today.
I owe you a :boozing:
