'80s Tonti plug wire requirements?

I'm going to swap the orientation of the (2) coils on my '85 Cal 2 so that the wires are on the TOP side, where they're accessable. Can't understand why Guzzi placed them with the wires down; PAI to do ANY troubleshooting when you have to remove the battery.

Anyway, I was going to go to the local auto parts store to see if I can find wire (each lead needs to be longer) of the right diameter. Does it need to be the right resistance, or radio-shielded, or anything like that?
