I would like to see Moto Guzzi bring back the 1100cc style bike. The EV is an excellent bike for around town and long trips. Last year my son purchased a 2015 Cali cruiser which he loves, but its too big for me, forward controls, and the clearance sucks. Almost sounds like I'm describing a Harley, only good for straight smooth highway riding.
Moto Guzzi, please bring back a sport cruiser/tourer in the 1100cc. Maybe a V11 similar to the EV.
I'm looking to replace my EV in less than 2 years and really don't think the V9 will be a good replacement.

I'm afraid about the only way to have a voice is to vote with your wallet. Buy a motorcycle you like, and reward whatever manufacturer built it for their effort. Life's too short to stress about Moto Guzzi's product line if you're not happy with it. I know I'm not either.

Find a pre-owned example of a late model EV with low miles, buy it, ride it, and be happy. :bike-037:

If you like your EV, why replace it? They last a LONG time, if it needs repairs, do that.

...and if you've got "new-bike money" set aside, spend some of it on super suspension, fabulous farkles, and great gear. You'll have spent more than the bike is "worth", but still far less than a new bike. Or conduct a restoration/upgrade of your current bike.

Because the parent company has decided that Ducati Aprilia will now be the subsidiary that makes motorcycles for that crowd.

Why don't you think the V9 would fill the role. Similar hp/weight ratio, slightly smaller/lighter, shorter wheelbase (so is it physical size?).

Piaggio are not going to 'Bring back' anything and most certainly not the big block 2V engine. Good lord! It's been out of production for five years and still people carry on about it! :rolleyes:
The thing is if you really like your Cali why not keep it? Why the need to change it? They are eminently rebuildable. Why not just have someone competent go through it end to end over winter? You'll end up with an effectively *New* bike and it will almost certainly be cheaper than purchasing a NEW new motorbike and you'll have the machine you wanted! Win!

I Like you you're funny you used the words moto guzzi 1400cc and sporty in the same sentence, There is nothing remotely sporty about the 1400.

If he's like me, it's the physical size. I've looked at the V7's and 9's and, at 5'11" with a 32" inseam, they are just too small for comfortable, loaded touring. My riding position puts me back on part of the passenger's seat with not enough room for the equipment I normally carry.

Now behind you in that 8-10" of space I need to carry my tent and tarp in a rectangular soft bag, my sleeping equipment in a mid-size Ortlieb dry bag and a camping chair. Wit those things in place, I'm pushed forward and am not comfortable and nothing is worse than sitting for 6-8 hours per day in an uncomfortable position.

I know I've packed a tent, Ortlieb drybag etc. back there too, but I'm sure it's just a difference in preferences or how we sit. No biggie.

I am reminded of people saying if the Japanese big three brought back the UJM people would buy it.
Every time tjey have they are discontunuef due to slow sales.

I know what you meant.
But as a point of comparison, BMW makes several models of sport tourers with twin, 4 and 6 cylinders. Since the 1400 tooling exists, you'd think that............. But on the other hand, bean counters are thinking economies of scale and market share.

Not unless Volkswagen now owns Guzzi, or Piaggio bought Ducati. Are you thinking of Aprilia? If so, they don't make a bike like that either; the Tuono is not a highway bike, and the Caponord is up against the Multistrada.

I have to agree - the 1400 motor in current configuration is a more laid back, torque-focused item. On the Veloce setting I can get enough snap to smoothly whisk through our local roads properly, but not in the hard and fast way. Even the Tourismo setting has me rolling back more throttle than is comfy with trail braking, at least for me. Fortunately, I'm more into energy state management and smooth, relatively conservative transit. More of a smile and satisfaction motor than a rush and adrenaline one!
That said, I treat my California as if it is a sport cruiser and it does fine in the heavy sport cruiser role, especially considering the geometry, mass, wheelbase, and position. I will ride with my heels hooked on the passenger pegs at times, tucked behind the windshield. Clearly a compromise, but one I happen to find appealing.

by comparison, both my EV and V11 Sport have the 1100 engine. They are quite different in tune.

MG does make a sport cruiser. It's the 1st of it's kind. Rider didn't understand it & most won't. It's a cruiser by it's configuration. Once adapted to it it handles more sport like than any other cruiser. Because it has bags it's a sport touring cruiser. The Scighera is a sport standard and in the same family as the FZ-7, the FZ-10 & standard GSXR 750.
I'm referring to the MGX-21 Flying Fortress.

I don't know if this has been noted here in another thread, but the Piaggio marketing VP had this to say in a Cycleworld article about the demise of the Stelvio and Caponord:
"As with Aprilia, radically new Moto Guzzi models might appear as early as EICMA 2017, and the big novelties will debut at EICMA 2018."
"At Moto Guzzi they are hard at work on a totally new engine, very advanced, a radical evolution compared to the present V7, V9 and V1400 units. It is due to complete this range of units and I will not say more at this date. We expect to be able to introduce some radical Moto Guzzi novelty at EICMA 2017, though at its concept stage."

I'd love to see a new LeMans, but I'm not sure what to expect from a "radical evolution" engine.
