A favor to ask of someone with a V9 or V7 III
« on: March 08, 2024, 10:09:42 PM »
I’m hoping someone might be willing to measure the distances between the three mounting points of the motor. I THINK the V9/V7III and V7II motors have the same mount bolt geometry, but I want to be sure before I move forth with my dumb idea.

These measurements are my V9. I could be off a mm or so but that’s as close as I could get with a rule eyeballing the bolt centers. If you’re putting a V9 on a V7 frame the rear swing arm and drive shafts are different. I read somewhere where someone had done it successfully but I don’t know what issues they may have run into.

Thank you very much, and for making a solid visual reference. These will be helpful, but I was actually looking for the distances between the two mounts on the frame in the middle, and the bottom of the front that mounts to the lower rails, shown below:

Concerning the swingarm and driveshaft, the pinion gear inside the transmission that mates to BOTH V7 and V9 driveshafts is the same part # for the V7 II, III, and V9:

So, one could swap V9 and V7 swingarms and driveshafts (although I have no idea how the smaller driveshaft would handle the extra torque and slight power uptick of the V9).

The V9 driveshaft have two U-joints to allow for a wider rear tire. Since the V9 appears to be taller geared, it should not put a massive additional load on the final drive anyway.

Revised: the 38.4cm could be slightly off. The cylinder fins prevent getting a straight shot with measuring tape and I had to estimate it.

Bueno, and thank you much. When it stops raining today, I’ll see if I can get the measurements off my V7 II.

Was able to hop out and take some measurements of my V7 II and posted a pic below, assigning each mounting point a letter for reference. This photo is not of my bike—grabbed a pic off the webs (attached sidecar makes it a lil’ difficult to take a good profile shot).

Unfortunately, on the right side, my exhaust gets in the way of mounting points A and B in the rear; on the left, the crash guard and starter motor obstruct measurements to E somewhat. So I may be off a little.

The extra distance from B down to C on the V7 III makes sense when I look at pics. I knew the motor reached lower to the ground, guessing it’s to handle the beefier u-joint found on the V9 (V7 III and V9 share the same gearbox).

I’m wondering if perhaps Guzzi moved Point B forward a little on the V7 III / V9.
