I used to have one of these and loved it almost as much as my T3. It was a great all around bike.

I did, too. Same color.

"main ride"?  BMW R Nine T Scrambler
..and would love an old Honda Black Bomber

Fortunately, Guzzi DOES exist. And a mighty Griso occupies my garage :thumb:

Back in `65? I considered buying a new 500 Lilac for $995 in California.  Maybe I should have instead of sticking with Yamahas then.  :undecided:   Have you owned 1?

Easy answer, my CB1100. I bought the Griso thinking the CB may not make it to the US. To supplement the CB now, that is a question I'm trying to answer now. Do I go big, or small. Smaller is very enticing.

I have to mention the Yamaha FJR. Still having a love affair with my '15. John, the Norge is anxiously the milder winters of Arizona!

I'm sure glad this is only a hypothetical!  I thought about it and realized I don't know.

I do like the Triumph Bonnie series, though the liquid cooling tics me off.  But I might be a to large for them anyway.  There are some nice bigger UJM on the market I would have to look at.  I wouldn't go BMW, totally with Chuck on this one!

BMW + Ducati, I already own both.   My F800GT is my main ride when the weather is cold or likely to be rainy.   I love my Moto Guzzis, but, would be perfectly be happy with the Monster 796 and F800GT if Moto Guzzi didn't exist.

I replaced my '01 Cal EV with a BMW R1200R due mostly to the much lower weight and easier in-town handling.  It was mostly an age-related thing in that the older i get, the smaller I want my bike to be.  Otherwise, the EV did everything I wanted and did it well.

If I had to replace my T-3, it would likely be either an airhead Beemer (very similar technology) or a Thruxton.  Probably the Thruxton.

As for a main ride, no question for me it would be the R12R camhead.

Best,

This photo is a couple of years old now, but it tells the story:

I sometimes miss the Buell but still think it was the right thing to get it to someone who would appreciate it more.

I really hope I figure out a way to replace it with a new Harley Roadster this upcoming year.

If Moto Guzzi didn't exist, I would probably choose a Suzuki V-Strom 650 or 1000. Ducati would be nice but not as a main ride. It would need to be a V-twin though. How about you?

I wouldn't mind trying an FJR one day...compared to prior BMW K1100LT sport touring and my current Norge which is fabulous for touring, I think an FJR could be just as much fun for gobbling up miles and enjoying the twisties.

I like the looks of the Ducati Diavel, just don't see it as that comfortable for long distance riding...

Maybe a KTM Dual Sport would be a good compromise as well...

I wish the last version of the Triumph Trophy wasn't so boxy, the engine seemed like it would be a treat to ride, but the body style was to square...

Now...if Porsche or Land Rover were to come up with a Motorcycle...that would be a fun one to hop on...

I had a Diavel for several years -- an awesome, ferocious motorcycle, but not really great as a daily rider. It was a raucous, brutal machine that was unhappy below 4000 rpm. I could ride locally all day and never see fourth gear. Fun, but not mellow at all.

Well Rover dabbled.

And Porche designed the initial engine for this.

Though from what I understand their work was buggered up somewhat by adaptations to production.

I keep coming back to this thread. I believe it is because there really isn't anything out there the talks to me like my Vintage. When the Vintage was released in '06, I knew that I would have to own one. My rationale was that the relative simplicity of that machine was already rare in the motorcycle world and that it might be the last if it's ilk. Turns out I wasn't far off with this opinion. The Small Blocks remain in a simple format, but if one gravitates to bigger bikes, you're going to have to live with all the electronics and fashion-driven features. Some of the machines available these days are so far removed from my motorcycle paradigm that they have little appeal to this old guy.

JohnR posted a picture of a V-Rod. From just my one test ride years ago I really was impressed with the engine and transmission, not nearly so with the rest of the bike. But thought at the time that if H-D would put this engine and transmission in a touring or God forbid a H-D sport tourer there would be a H-D that I would seriously consider.

This question has been asked many times over the years...but HD won't do this because it would take major dollars sales away from the Road King, Street Glide, Road Glide and all their other Big Twin standard touring bikes.    :undecided:

The V-Rod motor in an FLH style touring frame would be awesome! :thumb:
