Festival of Italian Motorcycles Melbourne Aust.
« on: November 10, 2018, 11:27:11 PM »
Some pics from this year's Festival of Italian Motorcycles which is held in November each year in Lygon St. Melbourne Australia.

Guzzi wise it was a good cross section and the bikes seemed cleaner this year!

I don't think I've ever seen this many Moto Guzzis and Italian motorcycles in one place. I'm pretty sure you were kind enough to post pictures last year as well. Thank you!

In shot #3, there is a red Norge.
I bumped into a gentleman a year or so back at a servo at Ballan who came from Melbourne area.
Just wondering if that is the same bike ?
He indicated that it was for sale, I would have it if it was available still..

And as usual virtually nothing built after 2,000.

Dinosaur exhibition. Not that there aren't some nice bikes, but they're dinosaurs.

Another cracker of a day at FOIM, I was one of the the first there, early am, then only left to attend the annual lunch of the Melbourne CIMAA (classic italian motorcycle association of australia) in an Italian restaurant a couple of blocks away.
It was great to catch up with many like minded and passionate wogbike aficionados; one who is a "noted" poster on this forum, who was also at both events.
Pete, Dinosaur exhibition, for sure! A Dinosaur toss-off in fact, and loved every bit if it, made even more so as i am familiar with many of the "dinosaur handlers"

The odd thing is owners of later model Guzzis just don't show up on the day. It's completely different over at the Ducati camp where there's a broader selection of models from early to late.

I will say though that there were a few more of the newer small block Guzzis in attendance this year which is encouraging.

One of my 8V customers turned up at one such event and a bloke with a Daytona and his mate with some form of ossified POS shouted at him "Get that bit of shit out of here! It's not a Guzzi!".

Not much incentive to spend any time with mouth breathers. Most of us who own newer bikes seem to prefer actually riding them, but there ya go.

That generalization is just BS Pete.

I've been going to the Festival of Italian Bikes in it's various forms for over 20 years with both new and old Guzzis and I've never felt unwelcome. I'm not in the Guzzi club either so I'm not an insider. The atmosphere on the day is very positive and yes many of those old bangers do get ridden hard.

Some nice bikes there. Why is it you never seem to see Laverda Jota's with the original firings?

I had an 81 Jota with the fairing. Not all late Laverda Jotas came with a fairing. The 80 big valve had the fairing that looked like an SFC, then the 81 (Mk2) and the 120 degree crank in 82 had the same fairing as the 81. These were made from a plastic that was meant to be resilient to impacts and would bend and not break. I think it was called Bayflex and was used on the RGS. Mine started to split along the indicator mount fairly early. It had a great mount but I just took it off in Summer to preserve it. I preferred it that way anyway. Fantastic bikes. If you see a 81 Jota with a fiberglass fairing its aftermarket.

I have sensed those feeling toward the new bikes also. To some if it dosnt have carbs or isnt a big block then it they are not interested in you. You can see that in the 2019 lineup thread on this forum. A few say there is nothing Guzzi make that interest them. I understand that.
If i was actually told to my face to get my modern POS out of here id have words for sure.
Even more very negative comments thrown at the V7 https://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=98606.0    I think some should be thanful the v7 exists as Guzzi might not without it.

Only a lame , underpowered piece of shit V7ll with a fake scrambler makeover  not really worthy of a Guzzi badge but its mine and i love it!
