upgrade qucik disconnect fuel line Breva
« on: November 11, 2018, 03:54:40 AM »
Hi,

I ordered the following quick disconnect from BeemerBoneYard for my Breva 1100 as I got the tank off and don;t want to go through that hassle again.

https://www.beemerboneyard.com/cpcqkdiscon1.html

Looking for  suggestions...

Should I leave the POS connector to the red tank bard and just cut the hose a few inches back and install the new quick disconnect? Or should I remove the entire OEM POS disconnect and clamp a new portion of hose to the red bard with the new metal connector from B BoneYard along with some safety wire for good measure?

Thanks

Leave the red elbow alone, cut the fuel line and install the QR adapter where it is easily reached.
You need a QR that is rated for fuel injection systems, many aren't.

When I did my Griso I replaced all the lines with thick wall fuel pipe secured with jubilee clips at every joint.

Question..thinking about leaving this fitting (pictured here) connected to the red elbow and then splice in the BMW quick disconnect in line.

That would do it.
Are you sure the BMW connector is suitable for the Guzzi fuel lines? My Griso's were 6mm

Not %100 sure..I would have figured more than ONE person here would of had the same problems with gas tank removal but I guess not!   I'll move on over to GuzziTech and see what I can find.

You know I just took off my V11 Lemans fuel tank for about the 10 time - I think - and it has two quick connects.

The secret I found is putting a block of wood, in my case a 1 x 3, under the tank to provide enough room for my oversized paws.

Then give the fitting the push-me /pull-me squeeze and gently wiggle it off.

Hopefully this last time (replaced the cam sensor) will cure the "coughing" problem when hot.

If you decide the new quick release is getting too hard to sort out, invest in a set of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3pc-CAR-FUEL-LINE-DISCONNECTION-PLIER-SET-PETROL-DIESEL-PIPE-REMOVAL-TOOLS/361336355534?hash=item5421533ace:g:kyEAAOxyLNpSHKcc:rk:37:pf:0

You only need the green ones but they allow you to squeeze, wiggle and pull with one hand ..... which is nice

6mm is under a quarter in.  5/16 is nearly 8mm.

I wonder what I have on the Sport?

was told (off this list) that the 1/4" QD would be a slip fit so the 5/16" would be a much better fit. I plan to do this over the weekend if all goes well and perhaps post photos if there is any interest but...from the look of it I'll just start a tire or oil thread next time

I tried the 8mm barb and couldn't get it in the tube for love nor money.

The 8mm QD to 6mm barb does seem to be a bit uncommon I found over here

YMMV

Since I was told to unplug the fuel pump electrical connector then try to start the bike the connector is no longer an issue.
With no pressure in the fitting getting it apart is no longer an issue.
