Back in the day, I had a 1978 GL1000 example, aka "The Root Beer Float!"

It was a fun bike...low and FAST...when wound up, it would run the quarter-mile in 12 seconds. :rolleyes: :shocked: :thumb: :boozing: Bought for $2,200 and sold 2 years later for $2,500.

I suspect it would bring a LOT more money on BaT today...(*SIGH*)

That was a great looking Goldwing JJ.  The wheels make it pop.

The Honda Comstar wheels used in 1978 were subject to a recall.

JJ,
 I had an 81 Goldwing with black Comstars.  Put about 140,000 miles. No wheel problems

The first year GL1000 was 1975, and the most desirable year from a collector standpoint, and it had "spokes"...and I always liked spokes compared to mags or COMSTARS....(just sayin') :wink: :thumb: :cool:

Funny how these were considered big bikes but compared to today's bike it's on the smallish side.  :tongue:  I'd like to get one stock but BAT is crazy on the prices.   :grin:

Last I looked, some commenters were dissing it’s service history, timing belt, water pump etc... might be trying to discourage bids.

Yeah, I also recall seeing the first gen Goldwings selling for next to nothing. A friend offered me a 1975  or 76 yellow Goldwing for $600 or $700. This was around 1985 or so. At the time, I had no room for another bike.

@JJ

I thought you l might like to see this '79 that I Just brought home ta-day... I dig it. Runs although poorly, needs carb work, duh...!  The engine sounds great.  Mostly there, left side cover is missing.

Help me, Please...!  Seems to never end, I'm Ok with it.  :grin:

Cheers,
Rob

Pay no attention to the cluttered side of the garage, it is usually hidden by a truck.
