V9 Bobber
« on: June 22, 2019, 11:07:52 AM »
So, after some minor changes I'm done with my V9 Bobber for now. All just small aesthetic and technical improvements that haven't radically changed the look, but the way it is now, it's the way I want it to be:

- Wilbers rear shock absorbers

- Rizoma handlebar end mirrors with LSL weights

- LSL-Raiser to lower the handlebars + headlight moved downwards (with own mounting solution for the speedometer unit) + speedo windscreen from Guzzi -> The front is now optically lower and for me more conclusive, is similar to the Bobber Sport. Ergonomics is now a little more front wheel oriented. Ideal for me.

- Rear footpegs dismounted both for optical reasons but also to save weight.

- Small Bundeswehr combat bag on the side for the "dirt look" and to stow small items.

- Single comfort seat optional to underline the bobber look, but also always like original seat when I use my Legend Gear bags or if I'm up for a bit of flat-track style.

- black lamp ring

Maybe there will be new exhausts some day, but only to save weight. Optically I am quite satisfied with the original ones. The much criticized rear view I find actually beautiful. The somewhat coarse taillight and turn signal design on the V9 is actually quite charming in my eyes. I'd have to use an all-in solution for comparison, but I think something like that is simply too dainty for the Bobber....

Otherwise: I'm still enthusiastic about the Bobber. The engine is a poem, ergonomics and cornering are perfect, optics are unique anyway!

Ciao

How do you like the Wibers Shocks? Are you thinking of upgrading the fork internals as well?

My Roamer front wheel hops a bit when laid over hitting a  sharp bump. No big deal though.

Looking good!

Hello "Red"!

The Wilbers shock absorbers are excellent, but of course they can only compensate the short length of the shocks to a limited extent. I'm not 100% satisfied with the fork internals either, but it's not as bad as the rear. I still have to think about an exchange.  Do you have any idea which alternative to take? Maybe next year... Now its time to ride. :bike-037:

I have some relatively inexpensive IKONs on the way with 4 way damping. Not trying to make it a sportbike (have one) but this engine deserves better than the stock suspension. Not sure what to do about the forks; expensive solutions are plentiful however!

The sticker had to be taken off inevitably. Anyway already annoyed by the bad quality of the same, my chopped tank now looks really bad. A new paint job is due.

The achieved weight loss unfortunately does not affect the speed!

Now I have decided to try it again with a decal and not to go to the painter. Yellow became silver. In my opinion it looks really strong, much better than the yellow one. Now I only have to be careful when refueling, so that the disaster does not happen again.

Nice set up! The Bobber is a great bike for personal customization. If you like the basic machine you can set it up to suit your taste. Nice to see more and more folks finding just how fun the these bikes are. The additional factor is the deeply discounted price tag on the left over machines. Its just hard not to take the plunge at the current pricing and give one a try. And at the price you can afford to make the changes you want.
Big thanks for the info on what a fuel spill can do to the decals! Going to be way more careful on filling up from now on.

Yes, I think its from the blue-metalic V9 version that Moto Guzzi had on offer.

Nevertheless, its a pity that the V9 has found so little resonance in the MG community. It is an exceptionally designed bike with a magnificent engine. Excellent for city traffic and country roads.

I like your changes.  Subtle and elegant.  They make the bike seem more of "one piece" instead of a collection of parts.  Well done.

The tank sticker might stand a better chance on the other side ( fuel always leaking to the side-stand side ) and keep it prettier longer :) . Peter

You have to keep in mind that it is an Italian bike! Functionality is not at the top of the priority list!

Man, all these cool looking Bobber threads lately is making me want to go test ride the Bobber Sport.

Good thing I just spent down my hobby money on mods for my current bikes and converting my trailer into a rustic camper.

I was just talking to a fellow Guzzisti, that came back from a tour up the California coast 2 up on a V9 bobber. He was super impressed with the bikes handling, and comfort. He added soft panniers, a backrest and a small windshield. He told me the V 9 is a real mile eater, and very nice for "lighter"touring . The more I look at this bike, I must admit, the more it appeals to me.  :thumb:

Rick.

The problem is not the surface finish of the decal, but that the fuel crawled under the first layer of the two-layer decal.  There must have been a small gap in between

Yeah! The V9 is such an easy to ride bike, amazing!

Wow!  Cadre just dropped their price on their NOS 2017 V9 Roamer to $5500!  Thats a lot of new bike for the money!  If I wasn't way over-served already I would be very tempted.
