SP Project, CL, $1850
« on: July 06, 2019, 08:14:12 PM »
Looks like a pretty good deal if real. Someone needs to grab this before I do, I don't need another project at the moment.

Are those aftermarket mufflers for a BSA 650?

That’s a project with a cheap initial buy in that will end up costing a lot more than just buying a bike already restored unless you have a barn full of NOS Guzzi parts.

Maybe.

He says it runs, so that means it comes with carbs, though it may not be what you want but it runs. Has clocks so just need a Lemans,T,T-3 clock holder from MG Cycle. Harness from Greg Bender and a brake light.   With time and those three items it should get the bike going for less than $800 bucks in parts.    If I wanted this bike, I'd offer him $1,500 bucks after I asked him a bunch of questions.

Or just buy a used late model V7 with low mileage for $4k and call it a day.

Ive seen a lot worse for more.  Granted if you want to restore it to stock, might not be a good deal... but if you want a custom anyway...  It might be a good buy.

I have original harness as well as gauges etc.
A guy could *probably* get it going for very little money, if a "cafe racer" is what you want. Of course, Greg's harness would be great.. but.. a true Guzzisti could go to the junk yard and grab a bunch of wire for free.

I have done the ancient brittle wires dance, and it isn't much fun. But there are traditions.

I think there are better deals out there. Just have to be patient. I paid $1500 for this and put a Gilardoni kit and clutch into it. I’d ride her anywhere and have less than $3k in the bike.

The *only* thing wrong with the old 1000SP I had in California was the harness. I know well the brittle wire dance.
I was just saying, a true cheap Guzzi Guy could go to the junk yard and find a bunch of almost new wire of the right color for free if he/she was wanting a low buck rider.

The *only* thing wrong with the old 1000SP I had in California was the harness.

There is about 35 miles of wire in those bikes. I replaced the same wiring harness on my CX with a NOS set about 15 years ago, then it got hard as a rock(probably 30 years old) and I  now have a fresh Bender LM I harness.

Somewhere around here I have a NOS 1000S wiring harness that I hope to never use, I probably can sell it on eBay for $3K.

Agreed...or you can buy this excellent condition... "TURN-KEY"... SP1000 now with lots of goodies that needs nothing for $6200...(or less with $CASH$) at the Guzzi dealer (Powersports Outlet) in Prescott, AZ!!  :thumb:

Strange, price is now $1450. Lowered $400 from the other day. Pretty low starting point for a rider with little work.
