Windshield Film
« on: July 09, 2019, 06:13:17 AM »
It has been awhile since I owned a motorcycle with a shield, but I don't remember ever having such a fogging problem as I am having with my CV14 Touring.  I also understand the good old Virginia humidity is relentless this time of year, but I am repeatedly cleaning a thin layer of fog off the windshield.  As recommended I use clean cloths and a mild soapy water solution but a cleaning just does not last.  I am going to pull the shield out of the frame when time permits and really give it a good washdown.  I was wondering if anyone has found a product to reduce this issue without causing damage to the plexiglass.......Su ggestions appreciated.......

Wax it with the same wax you use in your clear coat painted vehicles, the water will bead up and roll off.

Rumor has it that it's actually the same as a Honda product? Or some such secret I forget...

The video has a closeup of the back of the can saying "safe for..."

I use Original Bike Spirits spray detail. It cleans (even bugs), leaves a shiny waxed surface, and is safe for plastics. It’s great for helmet visors and the rest of the bike, too.

FWIW
I have a friend Alan Mcbee that told me to use Joy dishwashing soap and rub it in until its gone then polish with a dry soft cloth and it keeps the shield free from fog.
Now this it for helmet shields but should work on windshield.

I have tried it on my Shoei and it works.

Alan held the # 1 plate in the mile flatrack community for a while. I suppose they don't need fogging shields going sideways  at 130 mph!

My Norge does this too, fogs the inside of the shield. Cars do it too. If that is your issue then it's the outgassing of the materials in the bike. Some wax products help this as others have recommended. Best defense is a good offense. Cover it with a towel when parked. Not while out and about  but at home.
