Memorial Day
« on: May 24, 2019, 01:04:44 PM »
I bought a poppy today and will put it on Dad’s grave this weekend. He was a welder and a mechanic in the 2nd armored division during WWII. He served in N Africa, France, Belgium, and Germany. Caught yellow fever in Africa. It permanently damaged his heart. His second heart attack killed him at age 48 in 1963. I will also visit the war memorial in town. A number of men in Dad's family have their names there, starting with the Civil War. My name is there, too on the Vietnam War part.

Good post Larry.

My old man was a WWII vet also with the First Special Service Force AKA "Devil's Brigade" I had the opportunity to meet some of the remaining Foremen at a reunion at Helena, Mt.
and in Washington, DC at a congressional medal ceremony. They are a hell of a bunch.

Best wishes for a safe, happy holiday remembering those who fought and died for this GREAT country!

Thank you to all Vet's that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Thank you to all vets that have served our country.

Thank you to all who are currently serving our country.

Where would our country be without them.

Memorial Day is more than just another day off..

The ladies of American Legion Post 15 in Lindale are selling poppies in front of WalMart and the local grocery store. I helped Beaver get set up and bought a poppy. She gave me a kiss as I was leaving. Another gentleman wanted to know how much he had to donate to get a kiss. I left before seeing the end of the conversation!
