Apparently, David Lee has quite the reputation in the Airhead circles. Somewhat of a commentary debate going, on whether this is worth as much as the R90 S.

Still holding at $15,500 with about 30 minutes to go.

Sold at $18,900. I'm a BMW guy and have had three airheads, including a 1976 R75/6 that was in quite excellent condition (still have a 1982 R100T, so I do like them). But even a perfect new one wasn't that great. Geez. Guess you really gotta want it.

Well, you have to wonder, were the bidders buying the the R90/6, or the hyperbole comments.

Im currently doing a rebuild on a Jan 77 R100rs, about 4 years ago got quoted around 30,000 from the local bmw guru to rebuild it.
Currently I have around 3 grand in parts in a box waiting for me to extract the digit and start working on it again, marriage breakups and forced relocations into much small sheds is a bitch and very unwanted distraction.
So if the bikes a runner and in good condition I can see why people are paying big dollars for them.

I agree that bat gets inflated prices and 18 was high for that bike but that /6 was a high level bike. It really isn't possible to extrapolate the values of top restorations and pristine originals to the typical runner. Bidders with resources don't feel that a few thousand extra dollars is too much for correct pristine examples. Throw rarity or a marquis model in there and get out of the way.

Will that bike ever see the road? I doubt it, another garage queen, only to be seen on bike night for street cred if the event is not too far away and the weather is pleasant . I thought I read in the profile triple matching numbers, what the heck is that? To me it is a 6 or 7k bike at tops. I have a 81 r100rt with over 100k on the clock, and looks it, but runs super. Kinda irritating when I see this kinda crap.

I bought an 83 CS in 86 with 2500 miles for $3500. It took me cross country and back. I loved that bike. This one will go very big JJ. I’ll aim high and say $19k.

Back in the day, I sold my "mint" 1978 BMW R100RS "Motorsport Edition" for $8995, and thought I was "King-Sh*T" and hit a home run!!...   :thumb:

Seems like this CS is developing some commenting controversy. And it’s not related to it being “the last airhead “

A friend sold his R90/6 a couple of years ago. It in ok condition, not great, not bad. He was advertising it for $3,500 and not getting much action.  He finally sold it but I don't know what he got for it. Another friend couldn't get $3,500 for his pristine R100RSL with Ollie's and other pricey bits. These BAT figures are stupid.

Same thing happened when I sold my Matchless on BaT. Someone questioned its authenticity in the comments and then later recanted. It was a frustrating few days.
