Darn POS Breva....
« on: February 04, 2015, 10:15:28 AM »
Okay:

So I am riding home last night, and POOF, the headlight bulb goes away.

I have to ride home with the high beam.

Now I have to go get a new bulb, put it in.....geez, when will it ever end !?!

Seriously though, this is the second bulb in 4 yrs.  I haven't ever had on go out before, just lucky I guess.

When it went out the last time, did you replace it with an inexpensive bulb?  If you did, they usually don't have a long, lifespan.  Hope you have better luck with the replacement bulb.

I hardly ever ride at night but last summer I was on the Norge and the lights were really dim so I had to use the high beams. On further investigation I realized both lights were out and of course a jump to conclusions was in order and assumed the worse and checked the wires thinking they were burned out......anyway, both lights had gone bad after 7 years of use.

Or worse, replaced it with an expensive PIAA superwhite, or Sylvania Silverstar. You are lucky to get a full year out of those.

The regular H7 last much longer than the fancy supposedly brighter and much more pricey alternatives.

Also, if you read the fine print on the expensive bulbs they compare a brand new Silver star or whatever to a well used standard Halogen.  All halogen bulbs lose about 20% of their brightness after a few months of service.

The claimed life on all the fancy bulbs I have seen is about 25-30% of a standard halogen.

Throw away the alternator and convert to Lucas, you will never blow a bulb again.

The sealed beam on the T3 is now 38 years old and still puts out at least .4 of a lumin of light. Enough so the Pole-lic don't stop me though. I must complain though that the low beam indicator has been burned out a while now. I would try and turn in a warranty claim, but my dealer went out of business in about 1983. Grumble, grumble grumble humph.
