Help needed replacing throttle cables

(1/4) > >>

Gliderjohn:
I did some searches both here and in general on the net and not finding what I need. I am trying to replace my throttle cables on my T-3 and have never done it before myself. The carb end is no problem but how do things work at the grip? There is a what appears to be a pin going all the way through about a half inch above where the cables enter the housing. Do I need to remove that. Do I try to take the housing apart in general? Would appreciate suggestions.

John, any chance of posting a picture of you throttle?  On all my bikes, and as you can see I have a variety, it's straight forward.  So happy to help but I just can't visualize your throttle from the description provided.

It sounds like you've got the OEM Tommaselli Daytona 2C (?) throttle, the same as on my T3. If so, that pin (a very thin spring steel wire clip) retains the rubber boot. No harm in removing it.

To replace the cables you need to remove the two  screws holding the chrome housing together and lift it away from the throttle spool (that is, the grip) that the cables attach to. Then you can see how to unhook the old ones and put your new ones in.

Hope this helps.

On the 2c that spring clip also holds the twisty end of the throttle cable sheath in place.  It's harder to keep the carbs synched if the clip isn't there, and it's hard to find a replacement when you lose it.  I'd recommend keeping it safe.

If you have the plastic throttle, the wire thing flips up, rotating to drop the plastic cable retainer. You can then look up to see the barrel holders that are on the twistgrip as to slide them out.
