Steve we all want one.
I don't 😀The 750 Sport looked svelt and are the real thing for me. The 1000s remind me of parts bin special not particulrly well done: fat and unstylish. Ouch!
Other than the instrument pod I think it's well done and quite stylish. However, having ridden one back when they were new, I don't quite understand what all the "fuss" is about and why anyone would pay the kind of price they are bringing. <shrug>
I uncrated and did the PDI on one or two when I was at Midway. We usually took each new bike out on our test ride loop to reveal any "mistakes" Luigi let slide at Mandello.I wasn't impressed with the 1000S, either.
1st thing to do is remove the airbox. Jetting changes are necessary. DYNA coils that Franz Nachod/Spare Parts Company suggested made a tremendous difference. I have them on both. There are also European market cross-overs on both. They are "wide open" and allow the cute "shark gill" covers on the connection from the headers to the mufflers to be retained. Anyone ever notice those? FWIW; The 1100 Sport that came later got the same airbox-otomy treatment. While it was on the Dyno we learned that the airbox, which was claimed to be a ram-air setup, was causing all of the running issues and huge flat spot. Pressurized Dellorto? LOL.That bike ran like a scared rat once dialed in. Beautiful curve on the Dyno with no flat spots anywhere.Tom
my friend is the one that sold his $16k 1000s. i just found out this weekend, i thought he'd be buried with that bike, but sometimes life gets in the way. i was shocked to say the least at how easy he got that price. he put it up at a price he knew was high because he REALLY didn't want to sell but kinda had to. the guy contacted him immediately and like that it was sold, the buyer asked what his best price was and he said 16k, then the guy said ok. he already regrets it, but i do have that barn find $500 lemans 1000 that i may give him to satisfy his hunger
I'm thrilled for those who purchased the 1000S when nobody cared. The Daytona was the bike everyone wanted and Guzzi's teasing with prototype photos pre-release killed dealers while buyers waited for the 4v. A very rare black/orange big-valve '91 sat in the window of the Guzzi dealer in Tucson for years. The side facing out began to fade, so it was turned around until it matched! Good eye Rocker. The 'nuts-n-bolts' green frame JJ posted above was a parts bin deal. Still fetched lots of $$$, much to the seller's delight. The 1000S turned into a great riding investment. In comparison, the 1991 1000CL relisted on ebay is an absolute steal. I'll take the big valve, updated Lemon with wind-tunnel tested body over a S3 wannabe any day. Few agree tho-http://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-Moto-Guzzi-Le-Mans-V-/222292362265?forcerrptr=true&hash=item33c1a84419:g:bHkAAOSwOyJX-p2B&item=222292362265
