"Behold the Aerial Terror of an RC A-10 Warthog"
« on: January 08, 2018, 02:08:20 PM »
R/C A-10 Warthog.  Cool toy.  Turn it into an armed drone in minature.     22 caliber gatling gun and 1/4 stick dynamite bombs.

Looks like this is being flown in Switzerland. I have to wonder about the mind bending set of regs that you would have to go through and the permissions to fly an RC plane with a gatling gun and 1/4 stick dynamite bombs.

In Switzerland? Probably very little - after all, didn't they once have a regulation requiring all adult men to keep a rifle in their home? The army reserve forces still do, I think!

Sorry I didn't write what i meant to say.  I imagine that would be a lot easier to fly in Switzerland than here in the US. Probably have to get clearance from the FBI for and the Pentagon in this country.  I know that to fly the restored B29 bomber here in Wichita the folks have to file a flight plan 24 hrs in advance with the pentagon.

...and yes, I have some distant cousins in Switzerland who take military training and have gov. issued rifles in their homes.

Beautiful workmanship.
Always a bit of a let down that aerodynamics won't allow a 1/10 th scale a/c, to fly @ 1/10 th scale airspeed.
Bit of a holy grail I guess.
I used to have a 1/4 scale Piper Super Cub, and it seemed to touch down at an estimated 25 kts. Fully held off.
Would have translated to a stall speed in the real thing of 100 kts !!

They certainly used too.

I can remember going there and seeing small trailer mounted anti aircraft guns on peoples front lawns - which was different!!

Capt. Kim Campbell would say that the Warthog is a little bit more.

It's survivability is legendary.  Also it has proven to be a very adaptable platform with lots of wing attachments and that's helped I over the years.

But in the end, yeh, it's mostly about that really big gun.  Burrt.

Before 9-11 the Warren Grove bombing range in south jersey was very welcoming. You could call and they would tell you when a flight of A-10 would be coming in for practice runs.I would take my son and his friends there to watch.Coolest thing was they would let you go up the scoring tower. The A-10s would come in for a gun run almost at eye level. You would see the gun burst out the front of the jet,see the rounds hitting the targets and then hear the gun, in that order.

It's about the only jet plane the Air Force has that you fly by the seat of your pants instead of by computer.
Because of this it has always been a pilots' favorite.
