Need a bigger wife....
« on: June 16, 2019, 05:21:25 PM »
Nice 200 mile fathers day ride today, ran up the Potomac, from Mount Vernon to Great Falls & into Harpers Ferry and back.  Now sitting at 890 miles, just enough to warm things up and pull the drain plugs for the first service.

Today was SWMBO's first ride on the MGX. Though its the first bike she has said 'wow that is nice' it is also the largest bike I've owned, so today's ride was a bit of an eye opener. When she leans back against the backrest, her arms barely reach me, and her feet barely touch the pegs. Very different than the Norge, FJR, RT, C10 Concours and obviously all the others.

Did some adjustment of the backrest to push her forward and temporarily pulled the strap out from under the seat, but this is going to take some adjustment. She is a 'leaner' and puts tons of pressure on my upper body, so the idea of leaning back and being stable is new.  I think with some adjustments of the backrest, and if that doesn't work, adding the rider backrest which will give he something solid to stabilize herself, though I think after a couple trips she will settle down and figure it out. It's definitely
a new experience.

I can think of three different reasons why I think "He chose .... poorly" on the title of your post, although it's a good post in itself ....

So, Lannis, are you saying "He chose poorly" with respect to choice of bike, or choice of wife?

You’re on the right track. A little practice and adjustment and all will be great.

I always pulled the sissy bar off before heading to the beach to offer bikini clad girls a ride.  A little on the throttle and they snuggle up nicely.     Oh to be 19 again, but with the money I now have.

My wife is also a "leaner". So much so that every time I let off the throttle our helmets click together and she says sorry.  The Corbin is helping her feel more comfortable not leaning as it cradles more then the factory seat. Still going to take getting used to for her.

But fat bottom girls don't fit comfortably on pillions.  Harleys are exceptions.

You must be looking at different Harleys than I am.  I would say Goldwings are the exceptions.  My wife couldn't fit on the Goldwing passenger seat.  Said it felt like she was on the gynecologist exam table.

How about something like this? Never used one myself but had a friend who used something like it with his teenage passenger.

Grip 'n' Ride?  That must be a joke, right?  Something for pubescent schoolboys to snigger about.

A similar item is somewhat common among the jet ski crowd. Keeps the young'uns from going missing in the chop.
