Title: Norge Throttle Return Spring
Post by: smdl on January 24, 2015, 04:59:05 PM
Hi, Folks.

My 2007 Norge seems to have a rather lazy return spring on the throttle.  Basically, when cranked, the throttle will not automatically return to the closed position.  I'm not overly concerned about this as there are two cables (open/close), and I know I can make the throttle bodies close, but this could be a problem getting the provincial safety approval.  I currently have the air box out, so am checking to make sure that the cables look okay (they do), and that the linkage at the TBs works as it should (seems to).  However, I couldn't help noticing that there doesn't seem to be any external throttle return spring on this setup.  I assume that the TBs must have internal springs?  The parts diagrams don't shed any light on this, as there are no springs listed or shown, that I can detect.

Assuming that I am correct, and that there are no missing springs, does anyone have any recommendations as to how the mechanism can be made to operate normally?  I and planning to do a cable lube, and assume that might help a bit, and have already cleaned the TBs as well as I can without removing them.  Anything else?

Edit:  The throttle (grip) seems to turn with little effort, so I don't think that is the source of the problem.

Thanks,
Shaun

Can you close them with your hand pushing on the mechanism at the throttle bodies?

Sounds like it might be a stepper motor issue instead.

Sounds mechanical to me. Cables or twistgrip? Disconnect the cables at the throttlebody and see if it snaps back ok. That will rule out spring.

Hi, Dave.

They actually close just fine by twisting the throttle closed, so I don't think the stepper.   Also it is the same with bike running or not.  Will have a closer look, though.

Thanks,
Shaun

Good suggestion, Pete.   I'll give that a go.

Thanks,

local dealer lubed my throttle cables, and they failed within a couple of weeks. I believe that's not a good idea with modern cables.

Hmm, I wonder if he used something that wasn't compatible?

Thanks,
Shaun

Lubricant. Not compatible with modern cables. Dirt and grit love it.
