For the moment, it's a 1988 BMW K75S,

I have the identical bike - same year, same color. this is also a great choice.

Origin of the term?  I remember an article in Cycle World around 1974 about a "Gentleman's Express," which was a breathed-upon CB-550 -- BMW bars, better (lighter) exhaust, suspension and power upgrades. I remember because that's about the time I Dunstalled my CB-500.

My 'gentlemans sport bike' is an ST4 Ducati, which I think hits the mark pretty well.  I also have a Daytona (a charismatic charging rhinoceros) and 996 (an unyielding supermodel race bike).  They are both too track bred, too hooligan for the purpose.  My (1970s version) Le Mans was a great sport bike in its day, but is now a bit past it.

I rode a Motus MST-R with high expectations, left unsatisfied.  It reminded me of an old Corvette.  A crude clanky thing, perfect for those who also think late model BMW twins are refined machines. Reasonably effective however for those who like that sort of thing

The K75S is a perfect bike for those including ladies who want a silky but reasonably all-around capable gender neutral bike, as long as they are tall enough.  Bulletproof mechanicals, useful if the gentleman lacks mechanical knowledge as some do.  A bit boring and non-sexy for me.

This is mine at the moment, at least until I get the Griso back on the road.
Having a 100 MPH bike with drum brakes can get quite exciting.

Lovely bike, but I think you're confused about the thread.  The words "gentleman" and "hooligan" are not synonyms.  ;)

The ST3 works for me. In every way I enjoy it more than any Guzzi I have ridden.
The brakes, the power, the handling and the comfort all do it for me, not sure about the Gentleman thing though, more of a disgraceful thing to be an old motorcycle rider. Nobody seems to want you to keep riding, because they all fear that sticky end they've heard so much about. Maybe you'll oblige or just end up paralyzed  eating from a straw at the age of 75, not a pretty sight. Or hopefully just keep on riding and enjoying yerself till you disappear into the sunset. Wearing yer Sunday best of course. Like T.S. Lawrence, but he was no Gentleman either.
I like the guy with the Velo most, for the Gentleman, except that's a Gentleman with a good kickstarting leg, which isn't too common these days. Considering one myself actually, a Velo that is, but i reckon the Duke is the more practical toy.
But the post included Sport with Gentleman so it could go either way.

I'd show my Ambo as that's a Gentleman's bike, but there ain't no Sport about it.

Mine is my '97 Bandit 1200S.  I seldom ride this bike, but every time I do, I can't get over how great a motorcycle it is.  I struggle with the idea of selling it.
