2013 V7 Stone - thinking of selling
« on: May 04, 2015, 07:49:02 AM »
I think I am going to sell my V7.  I picked an old BMW sidecar project and it is getting most of my time and money.

Great bike.  I have about 1,100 miles on it and bought it in June 2014.

Now the thing I may need some help on from the group...how do you price this thing.  I searched and it appears to be a smaller market of course.

I have hepco becker bags, a breva windshield and Aprillia mirrors.  I was thinking of putting it at $6900.  I bought it in Charlotte NC from the dealer new.

Any opinions or thoughts would be helpful.

I can put in the classifieds once I am committed to the process.

Very hard and I would say it all depends on if someone wants the bags etc.

MI will sell new for $7,800 and a Black one on Ebay with 700 miles and no bags accepted a Best Offer and was listed at $5,900

My gut says you may be a bit high but depends on if someone wants the bags which is nice for sure but thinking could be a bit on the high end.  Best of luck!

Moto International
Pricing

MSRP: $8,390.00
Less discount: -$1,400.00
Sale Price: $6,990.00
Freight: $390.00
Se: $310.00
Document fee: $50.00
Subtotal: $7,794.00

Listed on eBay for $5,900 couple weeks back with “Best Offer Accepted” so "guess" a little less than that.  Just a handful of miles less without bags.

Nice Guzzi with a couple of good add-ons, but I agree, $6,900 is high.

If it were me looking, unless I wanted a smaller motorcycle and wanted to negotiate your price down, for $6,200 I could ride home on this:

Six years old, only 10k, dealer serviced and the color matched bags.

I don't know what the HB bags and mounts sell for but you could go $5,900 without them but offer them for a suitable price with the sale of the bike.  If a buyer declines the bags, list them here or on ebay / CL.

Good luck,

Tough one.

I'm going to refrain from specific advice about the price, because I'm not sure I can really be objective this time.

I'll say that:

1. Guzzis are a small market, so unless it's a fire sale you may have to be patient.
2. Accessories generally don't add much or anything to the price of a used bike. If you need/want every nickel, then remove them and sell them separately (I usually list accessories in like new condition at about 50% of retail).

That said:

There's just no comparing a CARC Big Block to a V7 Smallblock.

They are about as different as 2 modern Guzzis can be (ok, maybe a V7 and a Cali 1400 Touring might be a smidge more different still).

But my point is that I SOLD a beautiful Breva 1100 to make room for a smallblock. I got less than HALF for the Breva than I spent on the smallblock.

WHY? Cause that's what I wanted.

So comparing a used 1200S to the price of a V7 Stone just doesn't make any sense to me.

These bikes are a tough sell on the resale market. Unfortunately they really don't hold their value as well as some other brands. I've had a similar bike listed for sale for a while now and while there appears to be a ton of interest-plenty of email inquiries and watchers (though I suspect most of them are fellow Guzzi owners tracking resale values), closing an actual sale at a decent selling price is proving to be elusive.

It all depends on matching the right buyer to the right bike, but my guess is that you'll get $5,500-$5,900 and the bags will offer little or no added value. Accessories don't add value in most cases, unless your tastes happen to match up perfectly with those of a prospective buyer.

Cheaper bags don't add a lot of value but these are HB with carriers. If they're in excellent condition, they will add value to any potential buyers who put bags on their bikes.  A new set of HB bags w/carriers will run well over $900.  When I sold my Breva 750 over two years ago, I got $5k for the bike because it was extra clean and had the following extras: center stand/Euro sidestand/HB bags & carriers/small Givi fairing.  I actually had three people at the same time wanting to purchase the bike at my asking price ($5k) due to the desirable accessories.  Similar Breva 750's without the bags, etc were selling in the high $3k / low $4k range at that time so IMO, the "right" accessories like HB bags will add value to your bike.
My best guesstimate of what your bike will actually bring is somewhere between $5800-$6200 with the bags and $5300-$5700 without the bags.
You can probably get $450-$500 for the bags & carriers if you decide to sell them separately and they would sell pretty fast.
Good luck with the sale.

There are probably more people looking for side bags to fit the Stone than there are people looking for the bike.

Everyone with your model of bike is a potential customer for the bags of they don't have them so your market is much bigger for the bags.

Pictures of a bike without bags get more interest unless if it a tourer and bags are expected as part of the deal.

1100 miles?  Wow not even broken in.  A great bike for someone, no doubt.

Value of used bikes is a good question.  No idea.

Perhaps put it up for auction, on this site, no reserve and see what happens?  Cash only and buyer pays shipping or flies and rides.

Auction for maybe 2 weeks, plenty of time.

Sell as is.  That is true capitalism:  bike is worth what someone will pay for it.

I'd recommend cross posting to AdvRider.  They have a thread for the V7.  It's not the most active thread but you will certainly get more exposure to prospective Guzzi buyers...as opposed to the die hard Guzzi folks on WildGuzzi.

FWIW, these bikes depreciate rather quickly in the first few years.  I can't give you a percentage figure but it's not an investment grade expenditure.  Farkles don't add much, no matter what they cost you.  If you decide to not suffer such a huge loss at least you will have a darn nice bike to ride while you work on your project.  Count yourself lucky to have a bike that has such low maintenance costs.  It would add insult to injury to be sitting on a bike that had a $1K service in the near future.

Yes, you'll get more selling the bag + mounts separately.    That said, if I was in the market for a V7 right now, I'd gladly pay you $6,500 for you bike with the bags and mounts.    As another said, those bags and mounts are $900 new.     .

:+1 on ADVRider.    I sold my 2009 V7C (in fall 2013) for $5,400 without any farkels.   That was with 10,000 miles on it.      Your bike is half the age with 1/10 the miles on it.

You *might* even get your $6,900 if you are patient, but, probably not with the new V7II starting to arrive, as that will put downward pressure on used ones as MG puts incentives on the older model (new, leftover) bikes
