EV blind spot mirrors
« on: December 16, 2015, 06:26:56 PM »
Recent changes have made it where I can't rotate my neck like I used to, to check my blind spot. Luckily I mainly ride motorcycles and can turn my whole body. In my car, it really sucks. My wife's Ford has great factory blind spot mirrors, that I wish I had on everything.
Anyway, the Stelvio mirrors aren't too bad. The EV mirrors are bad. Has anyone found any good blind spot mirrors? The little add on mirrors are crap IMHO.
I've reported this to the NHTSA, but that will take a while for the recall. :weiner:

Maybe a couple of helmet mounted stalks with mirrors attached , although not sure they are NHTSA approved

How about a bar end to cover the blind spot. I use Napoleon folding bar ends on my EV. I call them my towing mirrors LOL

consider getting some larger mirrors with longer stalks.

If you have a windshield there are large car like rear view mirrors but curved that you can mount right in front of you.

I have left and right mirrors in the usual locations on my mobility scooter, but what really cinches it is the
one inch by three quarter inch mirror that hangs from the brim of my boonie hat and looks aft just past my left ear.
A quick change of head direction gives a great scan behind me even over to the right.
But the best thing I have ever seen for elimination of blind spots was on a proto type Honda in about 03.
A TV camera under the bustle  pointed aft and a TV screen incorporated into the fairing just above the headlight.

Push your left mirror out and use your right mirror for what is behind you. At least until you add a solution.

I purchased a set of mirror extenders from Dime City Cycles.  They move the mirrors outboard about 2 inches.  No change in mounting hardware just bolt them on.
2 inches doesn't seem much but it makes quite a difference.  They are nice pieces, good chrome, not too expensive.

I put extenders on the mirrors for my EV they helped a bunch.

I'm not sure how extending the mirrors would fill in the blind spot to my side.
I'll 'look' into it.

Maybe bigger mirrors?
