Oil pressure switch alternates?
« on: January 10, 2016, 07:23:16 PM »
Is there a list with substitute oil pressure switches for the carc bikes>

Have read a lot of posts, nothing that I could find.  Have gotten the oil light several times over the years.  Had MPH check the pressure for me once and it was fine, just loose connector.

Usually, just turning key off and on does the trick.  But now I have noticed some oil coming from behind the left cylinder, not much but enough that it needs attention.

I was hoping there was a better choice than the problematic OEM ones that everyone seems to have so much trouble with.

Put in same one, not the Piaggio kit to replace it w/Aprilia sensor . Good luck

I have a Breva 1100 that went through several non-standard oil pressure switches (but were for Guzzi).  Sources from USA and NZ, made no difference.

Only when I put the genuine part number version on, did it behave itself.  Of course I had to restore the connector to the original too.

It's only a pressure switch I thought (and still think).  What could be so different?

I got very good at substituting them out.

Have Norge 8v 2011. Mine blew out at 11k.  Covered rear tyre, front Of motor. A pick up to the dealer. They fitted a upgraded guzzi kit.  Has spade connect and adapter to screw into the block. About $40. I bought another as a spare. Just a pain in the bum to remove all the plastic to get to it.

Mine went last fall on the way back from the OK rally. The light flickered at times at idle but could detect no leak. Stopped for gas about 30 miles from home, things still seemed fine. by the time I got home the whole left side of the engine and behind it was covered in oil. 13K miles.

Have you seen this post on Guzzitech outlining a possible oil pressure sensor replacement?  Not a CARC specialist so don't know if this applies to your situation.

Yes, I did. One of the reasons I was looking for a substitute.  I also found a list on THis Old Tractor site, but it didn't say if the older ones used the same one as the CARC bikes.
thanks

Just like everything these days, (i.e. 8 Valve cams - followers) these bits are farmed out to the lowest bidder that makes a mock up looking part that functions well enough to get shoved out the door on assembly. Makes one pine slightly for the old Lucas electrics days. The old Tonti switches are 12X 1.5 MM straight thread with a sealing washer, if that does you any good.

I sent a email to the shop Mac told the forum about  the oil pressure switch and ask if the one they had will fit the 2v 1200 sport, keeping my fingers crossed they have the right one, so far the one's I've ordered here in the US are the retro fit and won't work on the 08 2v 1200 sport. The one in my bike now was the last one MG had and they told me they could not get anymore.

Good luck with that, I have 4 Guzzis spread from 72 to 02 but not one oil pressure switch works.
I was helping my buddy with his Kawasaki LTD, they have a flow switch, it wasn't working at first
but you can pull those apart and clean them.

I went to that web site and they have the blade type switch that won't work on my 2v 1200, I need the nail head type which has been discontinued.

The pressure switch does fit the 2v.I purchased it for my 2009.I have not installed yet but it is correct.Temporarily I altered the switch and thread adapter to work.Haven't gotten around to installing the new switch yet.

I have a '09 Norge.

I'm a machinist.I took the parts I bought from Harper's,Oil switch and thread adapter.I cut the threads off(turned in the lathe) the switch and rethreaded to 5/16-18(SAE tap and die on hand)dosn't have to be metric.Drilled and tapped the adapter(threaded end) 5/16-18.Screwed the adapter on to the switch(with loc tite)and cut the remainder of the adaptor away(hex).Installed on the bike and it works fine.

Thank you Mother Guzzi !

Have you considered ditching the warning light and using an oil pressure gauge instead? There are several mechanical gauges available. I ended up with an electronic gauge that was a bit spendy, because I was trying to match the Tach and Speedo from Speedhut.

Their gauge kit came with pressure sensor and all the wires. You just have to figure out where you would mount the gauge.

I still had a hard time getting the sensor to fit where the OEM switch was, so I got a 45-degree angle adapter to convert from metric to the NPT-threaded sensor.

I think you could get a decent mechanical oil pressure gauge for about the same cost as a new sensor - then you'll have real data available too.

Another place you can add a gauge or switch is under the banjo bolt on either head, at least that's what I did on my Eldorado
The gauge is strapped to the crash bar. I made an extra long hollow bolt to pressurize the second banjo.

It was a bit spendy of me too, but when redoing the Sfida 1000 (Running gear LM 1000) I eventually junked the switch and got fittings to suit. From there ran a hose to a fitting that tee-ed off a 1/2 NPT fitting for a variable pressure switch then ran the hose up to a mechanical gauge near the instrument panel.

This belt and braces approach offers peace of mind as both gauges and switches fail providing one is telling you all is fine then more than likely it probably is.

Although costly, when the gauge failed if I did not have the switch to reassure, I would have stopped the bike immediately and not dare run it until I thoroughly investigated.

It would have cost a fair amount to get the bike back home & been super annoying when I found out it was good in the first place

Ran across this today.
sizes are the same, different connector, don't know if the pressure indicator is the same or not.

Duralast looks to the same connector
