Title: Rear Brake Switch
Post by: Kiwi_Roy on April 12, 2021, 07:02:04 PM
A buddy just bought this old Bacon Slicer
Someone has fitted a modern rear brake switch to it c/w spade connectors
I told him he cannot keep it there, so I'm looking for a suitable replacement.
He's not into restorations so it doesn't have to be factory, just old with suitable patena
If anyone has one of the small rectangular ones with two brass screw terminals on front as fitted to a loop and they can spare it
It doesn't have to be working, I can fix it up.
If you have one surplus to your requirements please send me a PM
Thanks
Roy

What do you think of the mascot?

BTW, anyone know how the speedo drive is supposed to connect between the gear and the cable?

Roy I used one of these for my Nuovo Falcone. https://www.stein-dinse.biz/product_info.php?products_id=114081
Its a tad expensive, but I think there are cheaper alternatives. Schubert also has the originals in Germany.

John, I don't think they had plastic back then, certainly not spade connectors
I really like the ones on an old loop, they look like something that could of come from the 40s.
If I can't find one I will give him mine and make one for my Eldorado

Roy, TLM sells the one for the V7, I think it is the same as the Eldo. Not too badly priced either at 18EU.

Never mind I gave him the CEV one off my loop, it will look much better than the modern one and it gives me an excuse to make a new one,
I have LED lamps on my bike so a 2 Amp Reed switch is appropriate, his bike is 6 Volts so the current is †oo high for reeds.
I had a ride on the old girl, what a fun machine, quite civilized for the era not wild and hairy like his 46 Indian was.

I've used a few of the Stein-Dinse switches. The housing appears to be 3D printed and there's a microswitch inside. Those aren't spade connectors - you have to solder leads onto them. Works okay. MG Cycle sells them as well.

I've used a few of the Lucas type switches as well. It too works okay.

The TLM switch is just a "universal" switch - similar switches can be purchased inexpensively on ebay. I use a similar one to add a front brake light switch to my Ambo "Barney".

I have one NOS CEV "snuffbox" metal brake switch left in my stash. One day it'll be used on a special Loop project.

Hey Roy,

Cool bike.  It looks like a 1947-48 GTV - correct?

The speedo has a telescoping spindle that attaches to the angle drive.  Like this:

There was a thread on the Guzzi Single cylinder site about them: https://groups.google.com/g/guzzi-singles/c/rOLiG1NkYjY/m/Aq75KEYiCAAJ (https://groups.google.com/g/guzzi-singles/c/rOLiG1NkYjY/m/Aq75KEYiCAAJ)

Here's a picture of the drive end:
